We differ on those first 5 tracks. I think all those tracks are dope, but I know how Nas fan base is when he steps out of that box.
I’ve been making a conscious effort to try and accept him doing the double time/more current day flow. Man I just cannot get jiggy with that shyt bro, lol, I don’t like it one bit. I tried, believe me, this my favorite rapper ever…but nah. I’m fully aware it could just be a Me thing tho so 🤷🏽‍♂️, maybe some love it. And he always does it exactly the same way, lol, shyt be pissing me off lowkey. 😂. G.O.A.T. Regardless tho, bro can do what he want at this point, he leading the pack by like 20 laps.

At least u admit it ain’t something he’s doing wrong and it’s basically about what u want to hear from him. And that’s the issue I have with other people who try to critique him. He swagged on this tho. lol.

I really don’t know the music business and how features go about with budgets I play etc… but imagine if Nas got drake Abracadabra and J Cole on Motion. Both songs I think fit each artist perfectly. That would drastically change the streams. I know it is the music business but I wonder if Nas went to cole and drake, would they even charge him? Maybe they would but it’s just a thought.

I don’t THINK either one of them would charge him but this also all comes down to the business of it all. Several times the plug chick has been asked about Nas working with Kendrick/Cole/Drake and she ALWAYS says some version of “Industry politics” which in my mind translates to labels being more involved than the artists themselves. For Drake, it may be a notch under his belt and bragging rights to say that he’s on a Nas album. It would add a BIT of credibility to him as an artist for those who only think of him as a pop star. But if the LABEL says “This guy is only doing X, Y, Z numbers wise. We don’t want our biggest artist on a project that sells under so and so” then thats the business. It happened with Royce when he wanted Cordae on The Allegory. Cordae was ready and willing to do it but Cordae’s label wouldn’t clear the feature because they wanted to keep him “Young”. THATS a prime example of how the music business fukks with the creative inclinations.

Its why you can have Ghostface Killah on a Kendrick album but you’ll probably never see Kendrick featured on a Ghostface album. The only mainstream MC i’ve seen work extensively with older underground artists is Cole. Many think a Cole and Nas track is loooonnggg overdue and I agree. Perhaps the right opportunity hasn’t presented itself yet

I’ll also add that as much as we criticize the marketing team, they’ve done good as well and I think credit should be given when they do something good. Every album release sans Magic I feel like they do one or two things that really hit the mark, they just need to bring it all together under ONE cohesive strategy.

KD1 was the interviews, having the single/video ready before release. The initial announcement trailer. Some of the Ultra Black marketing videos they put on IG.

KD2 was having the video ready to go ON the night of release, which added to the hype. Also the interview with Ebro was pretty big. Also partnering with that company for fans to buy and own shares of Nas songs was pretty genius

Magic was a surprise release. No marketing so i’ll give that a pass

KD3 releasing the album cover and date a few weeks ahead of time. Again having the video ready to go on the night of release. The interview with Trevor Noah. The TEXT ALERT service was fukking genius. The Get Light Tik Tok challenge was cool.

Magic 2 was Nas erasing his IG and posting the storm video with the N logo. That REALLY got the computers computin for a min. It was the most hype i’ve seen regarding Nas social media since the night he went off on Kelis. The Houdini teasers was a nice touch as well. Really the whole social media roll out was really cool in my opinion.

Now if Nas combined ALL of that together for ONE album release I feel he’d easily get his 50K first week.

I just don't think he cares about sales at all right now, because they are doing the same things (i.e. very little) they have done with the last couple of albums. Even without guest features, there are ways he could promote it and he doesn't seem interested at all. He's creating albums because he wants to and the rest is gravy.

As far as streaming, out of curiosity I did some math and if it takes 1500 streams on a paid service to count as a purchase, with 11 songs you would have to stream Magic 2 nearly 137 times to count as one sale. That is around 70 hours of listening to Magic 2 (which clocks in a little over a half hour) to count as one sale.

(Edit: For streaming purposes the intro is over 30 seconds so it counts as a "song" for the purposes of this exercise.)

Nah for sure. I’m not one of those people that will throw anybody under the bus. I think they have definitely done a great job in some areas. I really liked the text alert idea they put in place for KD3, from what I’ve heard from the plug is people were texting that number back with pictures, etc.. so maybe they didn’t want to go that route again. But maybe they could bring that idea back next time.

I’m not saying she ain’t on the team. I’m saying she don’t be knowing wtf she talkin about. Big difference. Lol. She also needs to work on HER social media presence. I know regular people with more followers than her. lol.

Bottom line is if u wanna support by purchasing an album. Do it. All that other shyt for the birds. I always purchase AND stream an album from an artist I like. If u know ur not the streaming type. It’s best to purchase the album. Anyone telling u different is an idiot.

This is it. They'd be a lot better off speaking to the reality of, if you a "real Nas fan" and want to support these releases, buy the album on his website and stream what you can

They realize one person have to stream the whole album 150 times this week to equal one sale? You talking to a fanbase that's almost all 35 and up, most of us don't got time to sit around listening to music all day or playing games to run up the numbers

Nas got so many elite tracks that it’s hard for songs to crack a top 25/30 Nas list. Just from Illmatic to God’s Son there’s 25 songs I’m not sure anything from his albums onwards since 2002 have topped. Like even Stay on LIG. Amazing song but does it get into a top 25. That’s not to diss any of this newer stuff as what these albums with Hit have is consistency we didn’t get from Nas for some of his albums. But that elite classic level a tough group to break in to. I guess time will tell and maybe it’s nostalgia or maybe it’s just those songs when Nas young just can’t be topped period. And I’ve omitted a lot of amazing tracks from 1994 to 2002

I just did this wit my homie the other day "Hate me Now is top 25" me not it's not "start naming 25 songs easily better". His catalog is really ridiculous IDK where the HB material ends up. I could see Nobody, Store Run, Speechless, The Truth, Rare being somewhere in the top 50
