I purposely avoided the leak and copped it yesterday. Hearing an album for the first time always tells you how youre going to feel about it in the long run. After giving it 3 solid spins, I have.to say that this is nas best album since IWW. Content wise, nas has always been mature, but hearing him on daughters, roses, bye baby really surprised me. You know what youre going to get from nas lyrically, but this albums subject matter (queens story, back when, loco motive) really brings his lyricism to the forefront, especially when hes reflecting on the past, whether it be his career, family, childhood.

The knock on Nas has always been his production, so that couldve been an issues on this album. But lets get it correct, the production made the album an instant classic imo. Salaam Remi has worked with nas for the better part of a decade and absolutely crushed it. NO ID did his thing as well. I was not expecting this type of production on a nas album, meaning rather.than just having dope beats, it seems as if he was going for something bigger, something epic, something that he couldnt achieve on streets disciple. Quite simply, the album just flows. I know we all wamt that nas album with beats from premo, pete rock, alchemist, large pro, marley marl, but nas was able to create a masterpiece, thanks in large part to the production.

Life is Good is going to have a ton of replay value for me personally and with zero skippable tracks (summer on smash isnt bad), this album should be album of the year. I put this album third in nas catalog after illmatic and it was written, overall a classic in my eyes, and i.dont throw that word around lightly

what type of beats would you have preferred?
I little Premo or Alchemist would've been nice. I know he needs a few singles and something for the clubs and I know he'll have a few experimental tracks but he's got to throw in a few samples/loops. He's way to sick over loops. He's the epitome of New York imo and the grittier the track the iller his rhymes come off. I love the track Stay- that's not a sample but it fits him so well almost like the Ether beat. There's way too many fast/up tempo tracks and at times it sounds like he's struggling to keep up with them. I'm a 90's head in the fullest sense and I don't want to bring up Illmatic cause its unfair to do that.. but damn give us some of that street corner Nas with a blunt in his mouth. He's older and I get it, people change, go ahead and grow and do your thing but you've got to give us at least a little bit of Nasty Nas on every album.

Why are people complaining about Premo and ALC not being on the album, when we got joints like "Nasty", "Black Bond", "Queens Story", "Loco-motive", etc... Like, seriously. WTF are y'all really complaining about? Did you even listen to the album or just scan the production credits? No hate, but I'm really trying to understand.

Queens Story?
Nasty?
Back Then?
Don?
Loco Motive?

And then throw in Where's the Love and Accidental Murderers and that seems like a few street records on there.

Don't let the sequencing throw you off breh!:ooh:

It's all good though, we all have a preference. I respect the viewpoint

This album has all the elements of a classic. It may take some time to actually give it that crown but this is a classic in my opinion

Sales will be underwhelming, reviews mixed, but in 15 years it will be considered one of the best hip hop albums of all time. Think reasonable doubt.

:mj:

like I said earlier, everyone wants that nas dream album with the all star lineup of producers, but the tracks might not fit in with the albums overall vibe. I thought Remi and No Id did a fantastic job with the production, some of the beats were just :ooh:

In my opinion, the production is a huge part of why LIG is so amazing.
