It’s funny I didn’t comment or read this thread because I just didn’t want anything to taint my personal feelings on this album and what I felt. Literally just wanted to vibe on it and see what I felt after some time and comment that way. I don’t know what else to say honestly, Nas is the greatest of all time. No question and no comparison. This four album run has been one of the most enjoyable experiences for me musically by any artist. Ever. Him and hit boy is just the perfect combo. This is comfortable Nas. Just in his lane knowing he great at what he do but now with hitboy he got a wingman who can hit that shot consistently. I’m genuinely amazed at how great this sounds after all this time he been in the game. This some Benjamin button shyt forreal.

Wherever nikkas need to be told on

Not that it matters at all but my respect for Serch has increased tenfold. I had only really heard the troll narratives about him. He seems like a standup guy who has respect for the culture and understanding of his place in it. Salute to him. He gives a good interview too.

"Wanna Play Rough" is from I Am

"Foul Breeze" leaked. It's the song below:

Serious, Talk Of New York, Foul Breeze are all amazing tracks that fit the tone of much of the album. Should have been on the album, especially over some of the tracks that ended up making it. Almost hit that album out the park with some changes, to what could have been a top 5 Nas album IMO.

There was a song called I Am Somebody featuring Diddy that’s never been heard but XXL talked about it on there review for the album

Get Up (sequel to Get Down)

Play On Playa, which ended up on Hip Hop Is Dead

Wanna Play Rough

Foul Breeze (which turned into Busta’s New York shyt)

Imagine (Salaam Remi was PISSED because they were working with Yoko Ono to clear the sample and somehow Pitbull got ahold of the song and put a verse on it and leaked it)

Also the producer for Runaway Love confirmed that a bunch of rappers recorded to the beat including Nas, but Ludacris was the only one who guaranteed it would be a single

As someone who absolutely loves beat switches, that's my favorite aspect of the album. It adds replay value and the element of surprise. There are several instances listening to the album that I thought I was listening to a different song. The transitions from song to song are seamless as well.

I found myself going back to Bink's remix of "Echo" and how crazy it sounded and then going back listening to KD3 and Nas has that level of production throughout this album. It's layers of instruments and sounds that don't drown Nas out, but amplify his words.

I think it’s a low key way of making the beat standout but still allowing Nas to be the primary instrument on the song. Some producers try to over produce Nas and lose the essence of who he is to the listener. With this production method you can give Nas a simple beat break but still advance the musical landscape. The beat switch invigorates your ear but it’s still Nas thats navigating you through the transition like a lyrical tour guide. Hit uses Nas voice like a harmony bridge. I think it’s pretty ingenious imo

Out of curiosity what are some Nas songs where you think it's over produced, vs the vocals?
