People like to categorize others with the title “GROUPIE” when their posts read like the actual definition of the word. People try to pass their idea or expectation of an album onto others. People use words like “safe” or “surface” as if these words are edgy. When in reality an artist produces works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Has it ever cross the mind of those who feel Nas made a “safe” album with KD that Nas is in a safe place & his iuppermost layer of emotion (surface) was feeling light, free and happy so therefor his creation reflected that. Everything doesn’t have to be “deep” sometimes people want to cruise and just relax.

I never seen another artist be analyzed as harshly as Nas. It’s as if KD made some upset bc it truly is an album that was created for everyone to enjoy. Isn’t that the meaning of “replay value.” Besides it’s an album not a damn video game. Relax and let the music soothe you.

This.

Nas has given us several albums that weren't "safe" and still caught criticism. At this point in his career, any album he drops is going to be safe because his legacy is intact. He can just release music his way whenever and we as fans reap the benefits of having a new Nas album to listen to.

yep and to even go further I can say that epmd's album, chronic and doggystyle are "safe" albums because the sample they use are really easy to digest and target to please everyone. people act like nas has to prove something and do cryptic/undergroud/backpack shyt

Fair enough I guess but I'd say give KD another spin before KDII drops. A lot of those beats are fire to me and sound tailor made for Nas.

I ran it back yesterday. I'm not high on or didn't feel the production on:

Replace Me
All Bad
10 Points
Spicy
1st half of The Cure

That's a large chunk of the album.

I'm hoping Hit Boy goes a lot harder and Nas as well. He was coasting lyrically. I'm hoping more aggressive production brings more storytelling, poetic Nas. If there's some co producers I hope they added some grit and stronger drums.
