Yea I believe they did a joint interview last year for KD but with hit boy leveling up and going stupid behind the boards for KD2 a duo interview is needed. I’m still amazed at how dope the production is on this and yet the variety of sound is immense. Doesn’t sound like one producer at all.

Yeah, they did a joint interview with LA Leakers, but it was remote because of covid and also kind of brief.

Nas’s flow can be whatever he wants it to be lol. If he wanted to release another album with LIG like flows..he could. He made a direct point to flow like that on that album judging by the singles Nasty and The Don.

Right, I think he had a lot to get off his chest, and his flow reflected that. But the overall pace of LIG is kind of an anomaly as far as his albums go. He found a great balance on KD2 where he stepped up the lyrics compared to KD1 without having to go 100 mph on every song.

This.
Thats why earlier msgs in the thread had those Salaam comparisons. Salaam was also good at not have a signature sound but still making dope beats.
KD1 and KD2 make me content with Nas not going back to even some of my fav producers. Hitboy has demonstrated that he can match the standard.

I think this argument demonstrates the strength of his catalogue

LIG is a top 5 Nas album to me, I now put KD2 in that select group

The diff to me is how Nas was still effortlessly flowing on LIG...I don't think his flow will ever be that crisp again, that's no knock on him, bc for a damn near 50 yr old, he will outbar a lot of rappers, but you can't have your peak flow forever

KD2 was better sequenced, the mature themes of LIG has propelled him since, both had quality production...this KD2 feels diff tho

I think Nas has passed the "top 5 albums" tag limit when looking at his caterlogue

Life is Good - XXL _Universal Acclaim
Gods Son - Universal Acclaim
Stillmatic - 5Mics
Lost Tapes - XXL _Universal Acclaim
It Was Written - Cultural Acclaim
Kings Disease 2 - Universal Acclaim
illmatic - 5Mics _XXL _Universal Acclaim

Thats seven albums that by reviews and impact you would find many considering as classics with few arguments
This is without Distant Relatives, Kings Disease, Untitled, Lost Tapes 2, I Am & SD which are personal ones to many but have polarized fans and critics.

The revisionist history on I am has been a wild thing to witness as well. Everybody and their momma loved I Am when it dropped. Now I feel like people try to down play it not to give Nas his props for dropping 3 straight dope albums out the gate.

All facts. But nikkas like to act like son ain't in a class of his own by now. Bro was the golden child since he appeared on wax in '91, dropped one of the greatest albums with GOAT level producers 3 years later and lived up to his potential go forward. That's why critics can only hit him with ticky tack critiques to discredit him to this day.

And the reason why several Nas albums are underrated is because he dropped better albums. There's also the fact that his catalog is deep. I Am dropped over 20 years ago. Since then, he's dropped Stillmatic, Lost Tapes, God's Son, Life Is Good, King's Disease, and King's Disease II all of which have seen more acclaim than I Am. Some people put Untitled and Distant Relatives over I Am... as well. That leaves Hip Hop Is Dead, Street's Disciple, Nasir, Lost Tapes 2 and Nastradamus.

For the people acting like Life is Good is Illmatic or It was Written. LIG doesn't have anything better than 40 side, Store Run, or Nas is Good! And I could argue several others. This album is amazing to a dude who graduated HS in 96. I know I'm a older head but damn Nas
