The Pressure:

I'm convinced Nas always throws out subluminals in all of his intros

but the "God Son Across the Belly" made me really question potential subs

J Cole?
Hurtin’ nikkas I think they out for the rest of the season
Tried to play it cool, they don’t wanna see me heated, nah

Lil' Nas X?

Little versions of who? nikka, there’s no replacement

Kelis (has to be):

She out on the terrace, glass of Petrus with her bestie
Drunk textin’
While I’m out here tryin’ to spread the message
You searchin’ for qualities that I’m already blessed with
R&B exes
Charms on her necklace

Jay-z?

I ain’t made ‘til we all can say that we made it
Been down with the hustle so long feel like we’re related
Take my word like you would from the book of Revelations
Dead presidents, that shyt come when you dedicated
I invеst in education ’cause we wasn’t privy
Wе got busy, put scholarship programs throughout the city
Jefe, did it my way, chairman of the committee

Rat Pack nikkas like Sinatra in the 60s
Come through on some wavy shyt
Valentino camouflage on some Army Navy shyt
I know you can feel the pressure, keep up with my cadences
QB lingo

am I reaching?

:manny:

reaching imo, the lil Nas one I think is more at rappers on that conscious gangster tip that people like to say “oh he’s the new Nas” rather than literally lil x

it's not even fair:

My thumb struck a lot of lighters, pulled a lot of all-nighters
Banned from some afterhours spots
My crew would choose violence, move in silence
Who knew I’d grew to build an empire?

Streets had me against the ropes, would’ve thought I was ziplining
Techs on the dresser, money off tech, pushing a Tesla
Rolled up a fresh one, it's one IPO to the next one
Rich from corporate or thuggin’, expensive mistakes
It’s all a racket, it’s the same thing
Just the risk that you take

Moving too fast, blues on your ass
The boys came through with the task
Peep through the blinds, you knew it was curtains
Bread winner take a L, leave the whole family hurting
Seen it a million times, sister washed him out with the verdict

So I’m clean as a whistle, drinking premium liquor
In-between two Argentinian sisters
They counting up for me until their fingers get blisters
What I blew that on? I cannot seem to remember

It’s not even bragging

It’s okay, it’s gon’ be okay
Flyest nikka in this rap shyt

Sounds bad tho. You shouldn't have to pull out the homework to show how good a verse is. The lengths you guys go for this dude is ridiculous. All he has to do is marry the flow to the beat and he didn't do that until the end of his verse.

But technically it's amazing can't always ve the cop out. This is music. His verse don't belong on that album. Look at what Lauryn did. Jesus Christ and y'all talking bout Em?
The verse sounds fine as music. His flow until the very end was similar to nas' but a little quicker. The coli is the only place acting like his verse is trash like usual

The thread is 70 pages and plenty of people talked about lauryn. Go read them

:ooh:

I just realized Nas and Lauryn Hill did the exact opposite of "If I Ruled the World"

[Chorus: Nas]
One city, one country, one state
Some place to be nobody
Some place to be
Some place you wouldn’t know problems

edit: the exact opposite of being Ruler of the World is a complete Nobody

After playing this album nonstop I think it’s safe to say it’s an instant classic. Last two albums I thought were instant classics were Monster by Future & TPAB by Kendrick so yeah it’s been a long time since I felt this way about an album on day 1.

When this was announced I was excited but I thought it would just be leftovers from KD 1 (a top 3 album last year for me). Instead he sounds even more hungry and motivated which is :mindblown: to me this many years in the game. It shows you how much he loves Hitboy to drop albums with him in back to back years. At this stage of his career Hitboy brings out the best of Nas. Nas content is mature but his flow is still crisp and the production is current. I’ve got two friends who hate everything Nas has done since Illmatic but think KD 1 & 2 are classics, and I’m sure the production plays a huge part.

Come to think of it, nobody does grown man hip hop better than Nas. Life is Good, KD 1 & KD 2 are all classics to me.
