That list is stunning to me. And yes, Nas looks like the favorite. It’ll be him or Jay Elect (Roc Nation). Farrakhan stuff could hurt Jay Elect.

I...think Nas is the favorite brehs. I was very wrong lol.

I didn't think he'd be up for awards like this because he's independent now. Is this a matter of Nas's team being super on point, or is it simple as some people within the Grammy's being fans of the album?

I think it’s both, as well as this being a reserved year for music. We were going to get Kendrick, Cole, and Drake albums before Covid took over. Might have gotten a Cardi album as well. That would have been four of the nominees, most likely.

Like I said yesterday there’s also the fact that he’s a legend/vet, and the Grammys tend to reward artists in that category. Given how serious rap voters got after the GKMC fiasco, I think Nas can win. Lot of people voting want him to get a trophy. Swizz, Diddy, maybe even Hov. All have votes.

Nas name holds lots of weight within the Hip Hop community and like i was saying yesterday They revamped the Grammy judges to be more aligned with people OF the genre REPRESENTING the genre. So more actual Hip Hop heads have a say in nominations, which CLEARLY reflects this year.

Yup. It just wasn’t taken seriously. Same thing has happened to the rock and metal nominations. Actual artists and influencers (managers, label people etc) should have the biggest say and now they do. But the bigger thing people overlook: a lot of the rap specific judges simply didn’t vote before the GKMC thing happened. So you’d end up with pop music writers and music teachers having more influence over rap than actual rap figures. That’s why Em won for years btw.

It’s a lot more serious now. I’d imagine people here would question Tyler winning best rap album last year but IMO that’s more about how black music is disrespected by white genre creation. Just as they carved Africa into borders and countries that make no sense, they carve black genres. White people get the “alternative” genre for their different music. Black people? Throw it all into the “rap” bag because they don’t respect black music. Tyler should have gotten alternative or even pop nominations. Daps to him no disrespect.

Tyler himself said the same thing
