NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Ok, finally digested this record (spun this record a couple of times before, but wanted to compare it to whatever else dropped so far this year.

Off first listen, I didn't really find anything overtly trash, so that's always good. Now that I've overly heard this, it's consistent. I knew Hit-Boy would be a good fit with Nas. I think Car #85 and King's Disease are on their own tier, but the rest of it is very interchangeable. Only song I really didn't like was Blue Benz and 27 Summers was way too short. Don Toliver was a big disappointment jacking the Ella Mai "Trip" hook. Didn't work for me because it just made me wanna listen to Trip. All Bad is was meh at first but it grew on me. Sounds like .Paak feat. Nas though.

So far, the only 3 rap projects I'd put over this are Gibbs/Alchemist- Alfredo, Logic's No Pressure and Curren$y x Harry Fraud- The OutRunners.

I'd still like to hear Nas do a project with Harry Fraud or someone like that, but I'll say this: If this is what Nas wants to do for the rest of his career (and by that I mean these projects where the production is mostly done by one guy), I'm with it.
U don’t like Blue Benz????

kinda pissed this fell out the top 50 after 3 weeks
First album in 1994, no radio presence. Staying in the top 50 for two weeks is impressive as fukk. Nas is not Hov, he’s not on that level of sales and hasn’t been in over a decade. He’s in his own tier when you think about it because he sells better than the rest of his peers except for Hov. Lox album isn’t gonna do half Nas’ first week sales, for instance.

The album did as well as it was gonna do. Salute the man and enjoy the album.

For some perspective too, people should look up at what Usher, Snoop, 50 Cent, Game, Mariah Carey, Jeezy, Common,TI recent or last albums did

I would honestly say there's like maybe 4 rappers who are not from the 2010's who still make respectable sales and thats Em, Wayne, Kanye and Hov. Everyone kinda declining (though I expect Usher to kinda rebound with his next joint cause the good will there)

Im not sure what Nas next move is career wise, if hes gonna do the one producer thing but we gotta start preparing for some tough sales numbers especially on an indepenent. If he starts dropping albums annually on mass appeal with super producer maybe eventually they'll tick back up but for now the celebration is just in releasing music of a good quality at his age and time.

Sign of the times. Honestly if you're a legacy act and your core is supporting you the first couple of weeks while indie, can't complain too much.

both valid points, but I grew up on Nas. his albums are the soundtrack to me growing up so it feels personal when he releases something that imo is up there as one of his most rounded ever projects and it doesn't do numbers. i'm STILL bumping the album, start to finish, no skips

and also the whole legacy artist tag, whilst also valid, always feels like a slight. conjures up images of artists who are 30+ years in the game doing shows in vegas but only ever playing their old shyt because they haven't released any new material in a decade

These cats reviewed IWW as well. And what I tell u. The black kid puts it over Illmatic and the other kid said it’s a toss up. They both said they both classics. Most people with fresh ears gonna feel this way. I was doing some design work for some older heads where I work at and they was talking about Ghostface, Raekwon, Meth, Nas, etc etc. Then they brought up this album. They fukkin wit it heavy. Then they started shyttin on Jay talkin about how he always drop when Nas drop and he a dikkrider. They started speaking about Nas’ discography and IWW came up and they said IWW was crazy and they put it right up there with Illmatic.
That's dope. Honestly anyone who doesn't put IWW up there with illmatic at this point is buggin. That album is phenomenal

I can see what you mean by that as far as the legacy artist slight, not at all my intention by the way.

And yeah same here I been listening since I was 7 basically, 28 now. I agree this definitely is his most rounded work. It's just since he's in the older crowd he's not gonna stick around as long. Especially since most of his core probably purchases over streaming, which is even better for him being that he independent now anyway.

All that shyt seems like smoke and mirrors because I have a feeling someone staying at number 1 for 8 weeks in a row in a fukked up deal is definitely gonna eat less than someone who owns their master tapes with a phenomenal first week by today's standards. They gonna look subpar in comparison to that top charting artist and lose the popularity contest, but at that point, which are you choosing? :yeshrug:
