Nas is the only mainstream rapper from Queens without a #1 billboard hit. What went wrong?

Obvious troll thread but it should be noted that Jay-Z and Lil Wayne both only have one solo number 1 song and Jay's is basically a pop song where Alicia Keys is the lead star while Wayne's only number 1 is him talking about licking his lollipop.

By all means, if that's what it takes to get a number 1 Billboard hit, then I'm glad Nas didn't chase it like that.

And that still proves his point.

If one of the biggest boy bands ever ain't got a number one

Then how "valuable" are number ones as a metric

That's a good point you brought up about Backstreet. Neither does Garth Brooks or Shaina Twain. They have 12 Diamond Albums between the two yet don't have a #1 Single on the Hot 100. They have tons of Country #1 Singles. It's crazy when think about how many records Backstreet Sold and they didn't hit #1. "I want it that way" felt like a #1 Single with all the MTV Hype when it dropped. They have a lot of Top 10 singles but "Quit playing games with my Heart" was their highest, at #2. Also speaking of NaS's lack of #1's.

He did help Will during the "Big Willie Style" Era and that album featured two Smash Hits with "Gettin Jiggy Wit It and Men In Black.". Speaking of Will, it's crazy but None of Will Smith's albums ever hit #1. His Four Solo Albums and his Four Jazzy Jeff Albums never hit #1. Will's got #1 singles but his albums again never hit #1 in the US. "Big Willie Style" damn near went Diamond and it peaked at #8 on the Album Charts. It did hit #1 in the UK. Competition back then was crazy. A lot of successful artists have some weird sales or chart stat people will be surprised about.
