Just read the tone of that article and tell me hip hop heads/purists/etc didn't hate on Nas for years because he went mainstream. They didn't fukk with IWW or the following albums. The streets loved that shyt, mainstream masses did too...but the heads did not.

I got old work e-mails about this shyt from early 01'....DOE was actually being sold in Japan at retail
99% sure that was a bootleg tho I used to have scans of the artwork

It was supposed to be a set of outtakes made between It Was Written and Nastradamus.
Columbia ended up bypassing on the product when they realized that Nas was only
interested in putting out such a compilation in order to help him get out of his
lengthy contract just a little bit sooner. From what I hear, if he had his way,
it would have been D.O.E., Stillmatic, a greatest hits album, and then Nas would have been free to go . .
Ended up being Stillmatic, GS then SD which counted as two albums.

NAS
THE FORTHCOMING NAS ALBUM IS ON HOLD AT THE MOMENT, HERE'S THE LATEST PLAN.

Nas wants to release "Death of Escobar" first with "Stillmatic" to follow.
"Death of Escobar" is the bootleg/sessions project. The project will feature
the tracklisting below plus 3 new tracks. This tracklisting could and probably
will change. The three new tracks will explain Escobar's death.

No music has been discussed or recorded for "Stillmatic". In a best case
scenario, the album will be released June 2001.

The backpackers and underground heads wanted him to stay as dusty as they were

I would love "The Rise and Fall" in good quality, that has slowly made it's way into my top Nas tracks of all time, I use it to focus and recenter myself all the time. Never want to fall off. Keep yourself sharp and humble.

It's long been known that there isn't much from DOE that Nas' biggest fans haven't heard, and none of us hold much hope for a Lost Tapes 2, but it's still fun. What memories I have of those early 2000's days, hunting for these tracks, and finally getting them on burned cd's.
