I know he came before Indiana jones and they cited the original character as an influence but i had heard they only deliberately tried to mimic and spoof raiders when they made the 85 king solomons minesThere's a B&W Quartermain movie, and one from the 50's (King Solomon's Mines films), the character's been around since the 1800s.
