Depends, I think you're referring to a menacing threat because there's different kinds of villains, antagonist and general obstacles in story that any actor can play and be effective. Like Will Smith would probably not be convincing as a gang leader or war lord but as a self centered office bully or back stabbing friend yeah shyt maybe he could be menacing but in a Sci Fi setting.
