Main Source ~ Breaking Atoms
Kanye West ~ 808's and Heartbreak
Bar none, the most influential album regarding rap of the last 5 years at least, regardless of what you think of the content.
Anyway, my choices:
DM & Jemini- Ghetto Pop Life: Maybe not a classic, but a definite favorite of mine that doesn't get enough love. Kicked off Danger Mouse's career (even though
The Grey Album blasted him into the music consciousness) and Jemini was great to the point that I was actually pissed that
Kill Your Heroes never got released.
Organized Konfusion- S/T and Stress: The Extinction Agenda: Shocked at how little love these records get. Pharoahe Monch possibly at his most lyrical and Prince Poetry wasn't bad himself. I, who never uses the word classic, will go out of my way to say that
Stress is more than likely a classic rap album in terms of its composition. Just brilliant growth between the two albums. The second verse of "Stress" is the benchmark by which all off-kilter flows in hip-hop should be judged on (including a certain beloved New Orleans born MC...who doesn't come close to measuring up).
