WWE is gonna take whatever they can get from The Rock. He's unlikely to be available every week and they knew that going in. The fact that he's making himself available for quite a few shows between now and Mania is pretty impressive. It's not like he needs WWE.
I've always been a fan, but I recognize he isn't what he used to be in the ring, and he's probably not even quite as sharp on the mic. But that's fine. The fact that he's still as good as he is after essentially being gone for a decade is pretty impressive.
He more than makes up for anything he's lost over the years by being a genuine mainstream superstar celebrity, and with his nostalgia value as a face of the company when wrestling was at its peak. Those two things are much more valuable than being the best wrestler in the world today, or being the best talker.
Punk is the better wrestler AND talker at this point, in my opinion. But Rock has more value to the company, just because he is who he is. He has no obligation to show up for every episode of Raw, even if he's the champ. I'm sure WWE is thrilled that he came back at all. He's worth the investment.
I think these dudes, Rock and Punk, are working well together. I can't believe there aren't more of us who actually like both of them, instead of feeling a need to pick one or the other. It's like people forget they're working TOGETHER to create good television.
