It's true. My bike was hit by a car when I was like 10 and had to walk miles home with a fukced up bike and road burn on my face.

The adult just let me leave.

I was with homies who would be in trouble if they didn't rush home so I told them to go ahead and leave me.

Didn't tell my moms til I was over 30

This reminds me of when I drove solo from Denver to Virginia Beach in 1997. I had to buy a map from Walmart to plot my own route for the trip.

Shyt used to be real before cellphones and the internet.
My mom used to sell real estate and I used to have to break out the Thomas Guide to find streets and trace our way there…I feel like no 10 year old outside the boy scouts knows how to do that today lol

It's not a myth at all, parents didn't worship at the alter of the child like they do today.

Yeah I imagine most friends lived in the same neighborhood too either walking or a bike ride away.

I never see kids out and about these days, but it could be my neighborhood.
Every time I see kids outside, I tell my Wife “look at them free range kids.”
:myman:
She be like, “our daughters would never be outside like that.”
:usure:
I feel bad for Gen A, but I understand.
:mjcry:
We have a park across the street at our house in Tampa. I’d ask my Wife how old until our daughters can go across the street to the park by themselves. She said 11 & 13.
:usure:
I was like damn. I feel bad for them and we 10 years away from that.
:picard:
Raise your daughters and keep them safe Coli Brehs.
:wow:

Here in Japan, all kids are free range. It brings a smile to my face seeing a little 6 year olds walking to school by themselves. Of course Japan is a community and it’s everybody’s responsibility to make sure the children are safe. Meanwhile in the states…

Me and my Brother had to walk a mile to elementary school everyday. We were normally 10+ deep.

Yeah kids could be out playing and running to the corner store but if your ass wasn’t home by them street lights
Or if Ms. Caroline saw you doing something
Best believe by the time you got home
You was about to get your shyt pushed in
We did have elders in the community, especially in the south, who knew who momma and family you belonged too
So after they put a foot in yo ass
Yo momma, pops, uncles, aunts was in yo ass afterwards
You really had to be on your best behavior in that era because it was really some 20 v 1 type shyt :damn:
Then don’t let yo momma get on the phone and tell all yo damn business
I miss and hate them days:dead:

Making kids come back inside all started because of Adam Walsh

John Walsh, father of Adam, became the host of a show called America's Most Wanted.

Which became a fear mongering show (racists and white conservatives loved this show and these types of shows), and helped a certain network (Fox) get paid and become the force of nature that is it (imo), leading to Fox News.

It took about a generation, generation and a half, but parents who played outside themselves would not let their own kids play outside.

So along with video games, social media, and smartphones - we put our kids mostly in structured and digital environments instead of the real world.
the atlanta child murders ...that shyt had my cousins from atlanta spooked more than adam... whenever they come to texas for break...

mind u this was waaaay after ...like in the 90s ... 6 o clock .. they was on the inside...and them nikkas was on alert about every van....that passed by

my parents asked em why..and they gave us the whole run down...

David was marketed when we were little.

as a result. America was in high alert.
For missing children.
So pedo, flasher and child snatchers were being made aware of nationally.

Then after David.

The father of David started America' most wanted.
to find an save this one child. Which was rescued. That child grew up.
to become a super star named bizzy bone.
In a group titled bone thugs and harmony.

As an 80s baby my parents did not allow me to roam free. Had to be within earshot. If I couldn't hear when mom was calling me I was too far.
If you were an 80s baby then you grew up in the 90s and we ALL had free roam. Especially if you lived in a sprawl city or suburb. You’re an anomaly within the generation.

You went outside to play. If you grew up in the country you biked places. Or you rode a 3 or 4 wheeler.
