Yes.... Edge of Tomorrow
Edge of Tomorrow actually flopped at the box office though:manny:

$178 budget
$100 domestic
$370 world wide

They actually changed the title of the movie while it was out in theaters hoping the get more nerds to go see it

1. No one in the states was introduced properly to the Alita Origin story and was unfamiliar to this character unless they knew of her Manga/OVA stuff.

2. Disney has gathered up strength since 2010 to become a powerhouse Titan in the world of movies( outside of just cartoons). Last Year, they didn't miss a beat gathering billions at the box office off 2 movies alone. This year they want to do it again with the AV:Endgame and Captain Marvel. What was suppose to be a distraction for DC's (Aquaman) film was the Titan Director James Cameron/Robert Rodriguez "Alita:Battle Angel" Film which was slated around the same time. Marvel was expected both to cancel each other out at the box office until Alita date was change to Feb 2019. Disney decided again to use it's influence since it's film "Captain Marvel" is released 3 weeks later to have the critics bash, tarnish and burn this film. Knowing Cameron's control of the box office in films such as Titanic and Avatar, they were concerned it would keep CM from being #1 on it's release. They were also concerned that ABA wasn't a agenda driven film about "Women's empowerment" and wanted to crush "Rich White Guys". The same critics who praised Star Wars Last Jedi and the fans were pissed.

Watch how the critics will praise Captain Marvel and claim it to be as good as the average film Wonder Woman.

I'm not sure why Disney would use it's influence to bash this movie. Disney owns 20th Century Fox now. If anything Disney would want this to do well because it can be a new franchise under it's belt.

That’s just pitiful

How about DC is the blame and more people wanted to still go see Aquaman

Good grief man.... it’s always a “conspiracy” or an excuse against Marvel when a movie flops on here:rudy:

THANK YOU!!!

The bottom line is that James Cameron was to busy with the Avatar sequels. So he passed this along to Robert Rodriguez and Laeta Kalogridis. The script needed another pass through. The motorball scene should have been omitted, and that time should have been used to focus on Alita's bounty hunting, and her racking up on bounties and credits. It would have added to Zapan's hate for her. Chiren should have been more antagonistic. It would have helped with the emotional impact of her fate. Ido should have been the one to confront Vector and discover Chiren's fate. Again because of the emotional impact because of their relationship. Vecto was a waste. He should have been a real piece of shyt. You don't get someone like Mahershala Ali and not let him play it up. At least have him channel Cottonmouth.

The year 3030
after seeing the flick, it's hard to pin down a 1-3 minute trailer just telling exactly what the film is. Do they focus on her as a heroine? Or her story of finding her way as a cyborg?

Yes all that seems more plausible of making or breaking this movie than trynna blame a company that’s not even putting a movie out for about another 3 weeks.

This film fails or succeeds on its own merit.....

Looks like some dumb shyt especially the "eye" thing ...not a fan of all this "super hero fantasy" nonsense they keep releasing...but hey it makes boatloads of money so much so that 100 million would be considered a flop which is a whole nother "thing"... I don't think more ppl are going to movies either it just that going to the movies costs 4× as much as it did in the past....these movies keep breaking all time records but think about how hard it is to get to 200 million dollars on a movie at 5 dollars a seat vs. 20 dollars a seat

41 43 million BO. critics panned it 2 weeks before it came out.

oh Well thats about the best Robert Rodriguez can do........ im not totally surprised.......US audiences dont really fancy this stuff. Im going to see it,it looks dope.
I remember Final Fantasy: The spirits within. Same thing. US audiences just didnt go for it. Maybe if Cameron had actually directed.......whatever..... It should still break even, and depending on them China numbers it might turn small profit.

The release date is weird and I have heard the rumours of disney not wanting it to mess up Captain Marvel girl power buzz so they put pressure on some critics to downplay the movie......I gotta say I believe it to some extent though im yet to see the movie, word of mouth among my personal circle says its good. The merger has gone through so technically Disney would eat off this but there is a lot more riding on Captain Marvel for Disney.

the big problem with the movie is simply this:

James Cameron is a huge fan of the source material, American Audiences arent.

Compare/Contrast with other manga/anime properties where everyone was a huge fan, but it's obvious the writer of said movie/show wasn't and we as fans got this huge clusterfukk of an unwatchable film/series.

There's a disconnect. You gotta meet in the middle. Lifelong fanboys catering to lifelong fans.

It’s a relatively unknown property, with a relatively unknown lead, with mediocre trailers that feature big, creepy eyes that have already been dialed back in size due to said creepiness.

Or it’s all a Disney/RT conspiracy
