Willy Hernangomez appears to be our consolation prize for us not having foresight in choosing Tim Hardaway Jr over Rudy Gobert in 2013.

I'm hoping he really continues to show promise.

Gotta manage the expectations until we see what he's doing in the regular season with minutes, but I'm pretty excited to see how dude develops for sure. The basketball gods real blessing though was Clarence Gaines, who scouted KP and Willy in one swoop. Even without Willy, the KP call changed the trajectory of the team pretty distinctly. I haven't seen updates on Gaines' daughter lately, but I hope she's doing well because that dude is my favorite person in the organization right now.

Yeah, it's exciting to have good young players again to root for. A lot of fans get it twisted, and think that wanting to have good young players to root for, means you don't like the other guys in their prime... which is not true. I personally have always felt that feeling like your team has a future, helps you appreciate what's happening right now with some perspective.

Hernangomez is young, relatively inexperienced, and seems ready to mix it up with established pros -- even with the bumps and bruises that he'll take along the season, seeing somebody that wants to catch it in the post and make a move, rolls hard as fukk to the hoop, even if he has to finish with more finesse than explosion, and somebody who can find other teammates when they're open -- those are things that make a useful nba player.

And the fact that he's gonna be pair with a 7'9 condor of a man, means you can work around his defensive deficiencies.

Selecting Tim Hardaway Jr. was nothing short of genius.
