Spread Love - The Player Way
Meaning the city has crowned him as combo of chamberlain and Jordan but he's actually kind of having a pretty meh year. I was expecting him to make a jump and I'm not seeing it at all.
i had to come back to this stupid shyt
you know how many teams would want a "meh" year from a 2nd year player that includes scoring 20 points ...grabbing 8 boards and getting 2 blocks a game???
you know he's probably gonna be an all star right.
"meh" :mjlol:
aint no one crowning anything we're just excited to have a player with a massive upside and potential.
I am starting to think he does have "2nd fiddle" written all over him.

Another Knick breh said something similar a few weeks ago.
how many players came into the league at 7 foot and commanded do be a #1 option
you guys do realize...kp is 21...and has a lot of weight to gain and room to grow in his game...and he's playing with carmelo and derrick rose
i've seen it in several instances this year...where he tries to take whatever shot he wants...especially in the phoenix game. it takes a while to develop the kind of confidence....you know the kind melo exhibits even when he's having awful games.
compare him to last year...if he missed a couple shots he'd shy away from taking that same shot...
he'll be fine...and he will take over the reins as the #1 in due time.

So last night's game started off with lethargic, shoddy defense again; but as the game threatened to get completely out of reach Melo stepped up and took over. Riding a wave of KOQ's energy and Melo willing some three pointers over tough defense, the Knicks found their energy by rallying behind their LEADER. It took a couple of tough makes by Melo to spark everyone else out of this weird malaise where they seemed to have a "not again" vibe. The bad, the defense...a good fourth quarter doesn't erase the second quarter miscommunications or the free throw fest in the third. The good, the offense, and when Rose is slashing with Melo and KP shooting confidently, the offense will be good enough on a lot of nights to overcome the defense if it can be just solid. But for now; the biggest flaw on the team is still there and needs to be resolved in order for these guys to leave the rest of the pack behind.

Rose: Rose showed some rust early and Jeff Teague really took it to him in that span. But as the game wore on and Rose got back into the rhythm of things, he became an absolute game changer. When he's consistently getting into the second layer of defenders, everything on offense cliques. So after the TO struggles early, he found his impact game and settled in. 24 points on 50% from the field, 6 assists and 4 boards (4 TO's to be fair) for Rose, and his defense actually shined in a few possessions matched with PAUL GEORGE late. Rose brought some clutch to the fourth quarter and had a good one. We missed the guy.

Lee:
7 points on 7 attempts, 4 boards and a forgettable stat line hide the real impact Courtney Lee had. He picked up Paul George a lot and held dude to difficult takes most of the night. When Hornacek threw Lee and Holiday out together, the game flowed in a really fun way on both ends. Don't sleep on him for his poor box score, he earned his keep.

Melo:
35, 4 and 4 with 2 steals and no TO's on 13-25 shooting. The rest game looks brilliant in retrospect, because he has been right back to what he looked like for a large chunk of the early season. Melo played good defense but also drew a soft cover for a good chunk of the night while Lee did the heavier lifting there. More importantly, Melo showed real leadership and became the guy for everyone else to rally around. Most impressively, he pretty much played in the flow of things until Rose and KP sat in the third; he waited for his time to take over and did just that. Also, shout out to Hornacek for pulling Melo when his legs were giving out and resting him for extended time in a competitive fourth early. Melo will keep attacking even if his legs are dead, you can be mad at him forcing the issue or you can give props for will power but either way; these sorts of games show you why it's so important that he doesn't give up the attacking mentality...and also why he needs a coach that keeps tabs on his leash because Melo won't say he's tired.

KP: Tbh, I think KP was flirting with a fairly forgettable game until he erupted in the fourth...but that's what top players can do. They can struggle all night and step up when needed anyway. It's a mentality that will carry this kid to the elite level as he continues to develop. 21 points, 8 boards and 3 blocks. Thad Young is a tough cover and shot really well, which is a bit of a problem but KP's interior protection makes up for it somewhat.

Noah: Was this a "I'm not gonna be a pushover" mental reset or was it a "two days break? I'm back for a night" performance? I'm not sure, but Noah was an impact player for this one. In recent games, he's attacking Centers that back off him but it's failed due to his finishing at the rim...he finished a few this time. On defense, he was the only big who knew how to handle Al Jefferson which was big. 11 points, 11 boards, 2 assists and 2 blocks from Noah in a game where he really fought on boards and showed more life than recently. It's also funny that when this dude hits back to back free throws, it feels like the team gets energized...tbh I've only caught him making both FT's in two games though so small sample.

BJ: 5 pts, 6 assists, 3 boards and 3 TO's in 22 minutes on a relatively quiet night. His stand out moment was when he pulled a Prigioni and stole an inbounds pass; but that play really swung momentum the Knicks way. Overall, he wasn't particularly great but the two PG attack set worked and he was on the floor for the eruption from Melo. So game management wise, he had ball protection issues early (like Rose) but played impact minutes later (like Rose but less impact).

Holiday: 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and I'm not sure if I'm being biased or this dude is just perfect for the role he has on the Knicks. I just never have much negative to say about his contribution.

Lance:
Played 6 minutes and had a +/- of -10. I didn't notice that he wasn't being utilized, but if he had come back on the floor I guarantee my palms would have gotten sweaty and he'd have tried to force something that made me want to vomit...not spaghetti though.

KOQ:
His minutes were limited compared to other impact games because he was really overwhelmed by Al Jefferson. That's alright though, Al is one of the few throwback post players left in the league. Overall, KOQ was still a game changer who brought energy and quality off of the bench. 6 points, 6 boards, 1 assist, 2 steals and a block in 17 mins. He has really become reliable and his third quarter energy was a big part of the come back.

Willy: Got out there for 2 minutes and there wasn't much opportunity to judge his contribution which can be a bad thing or excusable due to the minutes but isn't good either way. That he's struggling to get minutes despite being so promising is frustrating because you want to see a rookie develop but it's also a good thing in that the team has depth that means he's not forced into high pressure situations often.

Hornacek: As the team struggled this dude's Dexter dark side was unleashing more and more. He threw a clip board the other night and was visibly frustrated with the defense last night. So what did he do? First off he benched my least favorite Knicks player after 6 minutes...so he won me over off sheer bias against a player I don't like watching. He went with small ball units that really swung momentum. He called time outs in good time and left Melo out there through the third into the fourth quarter when the team needed it. He followed that by benching Melo when the dude looked gas and made a poor decision. That quick leash combined with trusting his players meant a game that looked like it could get ugly turned into a comfortable Knicks win.

Random:
Myles Turner >>> Frank Kaminsky ...I'm just sayin'.

Giannis doesn't really have a true position, and that's what makes his game so beautiful. It's similar how Bron is the best PG on his team, with a PF body, but with guard speed. GA is definitely top 5 right now, and he's still a work in progress. Butler, that was clearly a joke.

AD, KAT, Porzingis, Durant, the man who help start this in HOF Dirk, these stretch wings are changing the guard. My issue is when I'm watching HS kids and AAU, there are zero centers lol. All of them bringing up the rock on attempting crosses and 3's.

There's a legit argument neither is top 5

Durant- I agree
Kawhi- I agree
LeBron- I agree
Giannis- Top 5, but not better than Melo, not yet.
Butler- Nah

For me it would be Lebron, Durant, Kawhi, Melo, Giannis, Butler, PG. Hayward is creeping on PG and Butler
