We got the Lakers Sunday night, Boston plays the Thunder. We're tied with them right now in the standings so it'd be nice to move ahead of the c00ntics :mjpls:
Alpha Russ and the squad coming off a loss tagainst James Harden? You know he's coming for vengeance and taking it out on Boston :ohlawd:

Outside my Lakers brehs, this thread/posters got me hella weak. Melo was torchin them boys in the 1st half, pokin his dome after that corner 3. Once y'all went from 41-51 to 52/53-51 it was over.

So I'm not gonna front, I watched this one at 1 AM in an intoxicated delirium; but I'm not hungover so clearly I can trust the observations lol. The Knicks offense looked really nice, but the defense was wildly up and down. Melo was in quick trigger mode all night and dominated the game. By the close of the game, the entire team was making a concerted effort to chase players off of the three point line and I think that should be the strategy all the time. It forced the Kings into late shot clock situations and the contested takes from the paint were tougher than the wide open threes Tolliver was knocking down in the third. I really think that if the Knicks hadn't spent chunks of game time without a PG out there (sorry Sasha), they could have won more comfortably.

Jennings: The only thing holding his game back was three point shooting. To be honest, he struggled with his shot all night for some ugly bricks and an air mailed three ball. But everything else about his game was strong. 5-10; 13 points, 7 assists, 5 boards and a few admittedly brutal turnovers that I'm gonna chalk up to defenders dropping off of him (result of the shooting) and fatigue slowing him down. Along with Melo, he set the tone for the team early and paced the game. At this point, you can usually expect him to come out fired up off of a loss tbh. His early play also established him as a driving threat (not Rose level but still) which helped other guys get good looks. His defense was part of the up and down play that I mentioned. Nice game, he filled into the starting line-up well.

Lee: Not his best performance; the man was biting on ball fakes last night which doesn't really happen normally. It's a compliment that even on a "not so good" night, dude was solid. His defense improved as the night went on and even though he only had 3 makes, the buckets were nothing short of timely...especially the drive for an and-one over Mclemore on that pump fake. 8 points, 1 assist, 4 boards and 2 of 3 from three point land...gave us what we needed but not really anything more.

Melo: Maybe it was cognitive bias, but it seemed to me that Melo shifted from holding the ball to survey the defense to dribbling the ball to survey the defense. All joking aside, this was a brilliant performance on the road after a lot of drama where he could easily have come out unfocused or pulled a Kobe vs the Suns (where he refused to shoot the ball). Melo instead responded by getting himself high efficiency shots all night, playing active defense and fighting for boards. 33 points, 7 boards, 4 assists, a block and a steal with his efficiency dipping mainly off late shot clock takes when things did stagnate. He drew doubles last night and passed the ball beautifully out of them too. I can't sing his praises enough.

KP: Early in the game, KP challenged a shot at the rim and came down gingerly on his foot...the same foot he landed on Towns a few games back. I'm not gonna blame his shooting woes on an undisclosed injury, but it wouldn't shock me is all I'm saying. This was a night where KP did some pressing and forcing to try and get his rhythm; I don't really mind that but I do think he should have taken those attack chances when WCS wasn't the guy guarding him. He was 6-19 and only managed 17 points on the attempts, but as always...he played good defense (got jerked on some foul calls at the rim), he got double-digit boards and he passed the ball pretty well. Relative to what we know he can do, he's not playing well, but he's still the obvious second best player on his worst nights (and the best player on some good ones).

Noah: Joakim Noah played good basketball, not great...but absolutely solid. He clocked 2 blocks and a steal matched up with one of the best scorers in the league. He shut down hack-a-Noah by making two free throws to go ahead with 2 mins to go. He grabbed 9 boards including a big one in the fourth right after he came in for KOQ. But there's the kicker, KOQ is blatantly outplaying him and makes it easy to be critical (the contract helps). So even though Noah was solid through and through, there were periods where I lamented the fact he was out there instead of Kylo. Objectively speaking, he did his damned job last night.

Sasha: I'm not gonna kill the guy for turning the ball over when he shouldn't have to be the primary ball handler. He's a shooting guard, not a point guard. The Knicks either need to bring in a PG or let someone else run the offense. I don't like his game, but I know that he's a short spurt spark guy and not meant to run an offense. I hope Hornacek, Mills and Phil figured that out...the 9 minutes he clocked point toward Horny realizing it.

Holiday: If you read these, you probably know the drill. This kid is reliable. Your boy hit one of the biggest three's of the game in the fourth when it felt like the Kings had stolen all the momentum off some ugly TO's from miscommunication. He plays a brand of D that's undeniably fun to watch and he chases down rebounds. 7 points, 3 boards in 15 mins but his impact is bigger than his statline pretty much every night.

Lance: Me being unbiased, he made contributions that we do not win without; both his three's and the steal he grabbed came at times where we ABSOLUTELY NEEDED them. One thing I can say for the guy, he's always been pretty good at stepping up in crunch time situations and willing his way to a positive impact. Me being biased, Kuz was better in the first half; Lance's D hasn't been as good as it was last year when it was already overrated; and I still prefer Cheese. 6 points, 3 boards and a steal in 18 mins but the stat line hides how important those numbers were.

Kuz: The guy had 5 points, 2 boards and a block in 7 minutes on 50% from the field. I'd have liked to see him get more time, especially when the offense stagnated for bits of time in the second half; but I can't complain much when Lance stepped up in the second half. For now this maxim is undeniable; when Kuz is in the game, Kuz makes plays.

KOQ: I find myself consistently wondering how long he can keep this up, because he's barely playing 20 minutes and posting numbers that'd get you sixth man of the year consideration. 8 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 boards in I repeat...20 MINUTES. His production is staggering right now and his defense is solid too; Cousins found a hole in that defense by dragging Kyle out to the three point line and driving past him but realistically how many Centers in this league can do that effectively and still draw fouls or finish over the weakside help that KP provides? He's become an X-factor in a long and successful run and if the league hasn't noticed yet, he's a consistent road trip away from forcing them to acknowledge it.

Horny: Kinda rare to see a coaching duel with a team that has such a poor record, but Hornacek found himself in a dog fight. He's gotta be mindful of the hack-a-Noah strategy; but besides that I can't fault many of his decisions. In a loss, I'm complaining about Kuz vs Lance, but Lance's fourth quarter play was a big player in our win. I could lament Sasha at the point, but he gave Sasha 9 minutes out there and said "screw it, Jennings I see you tired but it's up to you." Would I like to see Ron Baker get some burn over Sasha at PG? Yeah probably, but in a game that comes down to the wire; I can't fault the guy for trusting vets over a completely unproven commodity. He also put Noah in for KOQ in the fourth at a point where I groaned; Noah immediately grabbed an offensive rebound and sunk a pair of important FT's...you win Horny.

Random: Love 'em or hate 'em, this Knicks team is really fun to watch. They're in consistent thrillers and thanks to poor road play; they're also making me a ton of bank on the Vegas lines.

Great breakdown. The refs really do seem to not like the Knicks which makes no sense as this team complains far less than most of their playoff teams . Prettty sure melo gets that second tech if he was being as demonstrative as cousins was . Also vsn Phil not say everything that comes to mind ?? He's starting to drift into dantoni territory with talking too much and putting himself over , one of his benefits was suppose to he can attract players with his reputation instead he insulting some of the biggest power brokers in the league
