Missed the game tonight but saw the highlights. Rose was eating, KOQ earned the start. But this team has seniority, that's why the gawd Vujacic get his minutes.
Holiday is great, long, energy guy and down for 6-12 ppg.

I caught the whole first half before pausing the game and switching to Westworld's finale because that show is crack and I didn't want the conclusion spoiled. I flipped back after the show and the pause didn't hold or some ish so I was watching the Knicks try to hold a 5 point lead with 5 mins to go in the game. So I can't give my usual player by player stuff or get too much into the analysis, but I'll toss a few rolling observations based on the past few games...
- Rose finding that midrange jumper goes from an okay player to an impact piece. He also had a couple of kickouts in the first half, which shows less tunnel vision. If he's hitting midrange and clipping 5-7 APG instead of 3-4...the dude becomes a legit third cog right with KP and Melo.
- KOQ is looking like Noah's influence is taking. That coast to coast play and the screaming...that's Noah's ish. The mentor stuff doesn't value at that huge contract, but at least there's some benefits to find and KOQ is at minimum worth his contract at this point. He's gotta just stay focused.
- As scary as the long scoring droughts have been recently, I think the biggest problem I've noted with the big leads collapsing has been defensive complacency. It sounds like the third quarter was another free throw fest for an opposition while the Knicks hung their heads and complained at everything. The five mins I saw of the second half show intelligent, physical defense and so did most of the first half (early on they were a bit foolish with their contact though). So these guys are capable of good D, but when the lead is near 20; they lose the urgency necessary.
- Melo without the weight of scoring every second he's out there has become the closer again. His clutch play in a third tight one was pretty damned clear and it's been on both ends.
- Speaking of clutch defensive play, KP was awesome on the defensive end while I was watching. He's had his lapses and even in this one he completely forgot about Barnes on the three point line multiple times; but as far as interior defense goes, the kid is a PROBLEM!
- Nothing Lance did in the bit I watched (and he hit both his made FGA's while I was watching mind you) made me confident in him retaking a rotation spot over Kuz.
- Willy has some of the most fluid post moves I've seen from a young big in a long time. Okafor would be the only young C who entered the league with immediate post prowess like that in my recent memory (not counting Embiid who is a freak of nature and should only be compared to elite prospects plus who had a couple of years developing from off the court).
- There's a bit of a progression this season that's been fun to see. The Knicks started off getting down early and fighting back all game. Then they were keeping games tight and fighting back from smaller deficits for a while. Now they're getting off to early big leads and fighting to protect small leads next. The next step is obviously closing these games out and sweeping the damned leg.
- Back to back this week...I legitimately am sticking to the "rest guys to send a message" thing. It'll be added benefit in a 3 games over 4 nights run because players will be rested for the ones they're supposed to win. It'd be nice to see them come out and fight with the Cavs; but I don't care about a moral victory so much as getting those notches in the win column and the last 3 games over 4 saw Melo go on the worst shooting I've seen from him over a span of a few games afterward.
- Just to reiterate more clearly, the Miami game is one I REALLY want this squad to win. They should win it too, they're the better team but Whiteside is a handful and Miami has some young hungry cats when the team is healthy (have they been healthy at all this year though?)
- Hornacek has done a good job coaching, but he made a mistake leaving Noah out there to miss 4 FTA's and KOQ came in and immediately had an impact on both ends...so the late sub looks worse. He admitted the failing though, which i respect.
- Holiday's hustle is always gonna be fun to watch. He has to get that jumper back to consistency though.
- Sasha deserves his props, in the latest few stints on the floor; he's looked more like he did the last month of last season rather than the entire rest of his Knicks run. I'm still a Chasson Randle guy though.
