I'm not sure man I grew up in Queens. I haven't lived in the city full time since 02'. I moved back around the beginning of 12'. It could have been the time of the day, it could have been the train. I think it was an express train. Are there still black people in Jamaica? Twilight zone status...

:wtb: nah brehs yall was in a different dimension. on the E/F past union its black/hibebe. and jamaica, is still very black. hillside is still very hibebe. 80% of all melanin deficient people get off at union/roosevelt them kinda stops.

What im upset about is what Fort Greene/ Clinton Hill turned into. A prime area that was a Brooklyn Boheme. The culturally rich area that was safer than the rest and had alot of black artists. But how its all white hipsters/yuppies. and the identity is getting washed away. Theres still some black people but its those that own property. a one bedroom in fort greene is at least $2000 now. and that unrenovated:whew:

Now i notice the same spreading more and more east into crown heights:why:
Its strongly past nostrand now.

But at the end of the day, i cant get mad at em. If the peoples there didnt invest in their community you cant get mad when gentrification comes through and does:manny:

I remember Fort Greene being mentioned in magazines in the 90s in likes of Vibe Magazine as having a "Harlem Renaissance" of sorts in Brooklyn.....

It was. There was a documentary filmed on it called Brooklyn Boheme. Heres the trailer.

Even now the vibe you get there is just :jawalrus:. That was identified with black people, now, its said its the most diverse:beli:. idk about you but i prefer Fort Greene, Clinton Hill strongly over harlem. Alot cleaner, WAYYY less projects. Quiet narrow streets. and brownstone galore:ahh:

There wasn't a single person of color on the train besides some uppity Indian chicks.

Aren't there black people in Briarwood?

NYCHA is selling the Albany Houses to Ratner to turn into lofts by 2019.

I really hope Brooklyn doesn't change anymore. I won't live around these people, I can't.

Realistically do you think many of us are in any position to completely OWN our communities in NYC? Be realistic, I am actually in the mood to debate and talk in the next coming days with the usual suspects in this thread such as @NYC Rebel @She Agree That I'm Looney @88m3 @Wild self and others.

Its too late. We should have done it 30 years ago when property was affordable. :sadbron::smh: Now it is far too late to do anything.

I don't have stats on hand, but I am sure we had a lower percentage of wealth in this country 30 years ago.

I just had a talk with a community advocate and scholar at the "infamous" 95 South ( @sheagreethati'mlooney knows) and she talked about how for all of Ed Kochs shortcomings, his policies ensured that the low and middle income New Yorker could find housing. That's changed under Bloomberg whose ushered in this era of gentrification under his watch. So when I hear this "fail to invest in our communities" bullshyt, I have to laugh because we really did.

Koch is a little bit before my time, but I just opened his Wikipedia page to start digging for info. So you do think we blew it in terms of investing in our communities as a whole back then? I was thinking more of actually owning property rather than just finding affordable housing to rent out.
