I heard this from one of the elders who I totally respect.

The "third answer" on KISS FM now WBLS is an ol' black man who put together boycotts on Madison Avenue and got marketers to add black executives who voices this all the time. I trust that dude.

He stated that Rangel and David Dinkins, the then Manhattan Borough President, were in on it. He was saying that on KISS 15 years ago before gentrification took place in Harlem!! :krs:
:ehh: I will take your word for it. I grew up with a couple of folks who were probably on the other sides of those dealings.

its for reasons like my NYC brehs stated that i much prefer Detroit/Chicago's hipsters to NYC's.

Ain't many trust fund kids in Detroit, perhaps in the Chi but nothing like in NYC...the hippies here actually participate within the community and don't hide themselves away in little enclaves. I guess you could say the weirdness here is more genuine...

I feel like Detroit today is where NYC was maybe 30 years ago... and by not being there I'm missing out on a big opportunity

Keep it fonky though. How many hipsters are really crossing 8 Mile Road? They don't play over there. They are too busy to even rap about it

Philadelphia
Baltimore is also on my gentrification watch

Crazy amount of $$$ in that region and a crazy amount of distressed real estate

Sounds like a recipe for gentrification to me...

Also... It will eventually hit small cities like Wilmington, Trenton, Newark etc... I'm watching out on all fronts

Yeah DMV prices have beeing going up overall, I'm currently in Annapolis and prices are continue to go up. My sister used to pay $500 fora 2 bedroom in a gated community when she first moved to Baltimore, that same spot would run $950-975.

Well, the war on gentrification has been lost. Black folk might as well move to the south and build from there.

Down South? ain't nothing down here yo, they moving to nothing when they come down here for real. We certainly don't have the building to house them. And the South is run by Republicans so they sure aren't about to build anymore low income housing.

My Pops Forever RIP

I haven't read through the rest of the thread, but there's a reason why that shyt ain't getting sold like that.

It's not even just the location in terms of public transportation (the Bx36 gets you to Tremont and Burnside or to the 5 or 6 train no problem). My brother's grandma used to live on 180th and Clinton. I know that area real well. Ghetto as fukk. The bytches are BAD though (there was one girl I hooked up with while we were practicing for a quinceanera on Southern Blvd :ohlawd: I miss that summer, but I digress).

Lots of gangs out there. You are 1 Derrick Rose jersey away from someone tryna ask you what set you claim out there and needing to get the question right. The apt looks nice so as long as you can handle your surroundings you should be OK.

breh I'm telling you, its unlike anything I've ever seen before.

Me & the wifey use to cook food and take it to the homeless. The 1st place we went was what I expected, shelters, soup kitchen.

Then the next place we just stopped on a corner. Black people, I mean, grown old folks, teenagers and babies all started coming out of THE WOODS, just out of the night air from no where. I couldn't believe my eyes :gag:, never hear about this stuff on the news, never hear about it in church. One of the saddest sites I've ever seen breh. :sadcam:
