Idk why..As far as Hip Hop and R&B collabs/remixes Mariah was batting a good percentage close to how Mary was, ODB,LOX,Bone Thugs etc
Damn I like this one. I concur with that statement! You can make the argument this was the Illmatic of R&B albums. I remember copping it at Tower records when it first dropped.
OkMariah shyt was always contrived.
She had nowhere near the connection with us that Mary did.
She started fukkin with the blacks when hip hop became pop music.
Before then she was on some top 40 bland pop shyt.
You would’ve been better off saying Brandy.
Mary had that instant connection. We all knew some Mary’s growing up. She was the representation of every black girl coming up in the hood in some way shape or formMariah shyt was always contrived.

Man, this my shyt. It just puts you in a good mood. I remember them days fukked up in the streets trying find myself and I would play this shyt and visualize me turning my life around. Funny shyt I had gone years without hearing it and had gone to Oakland to a spot with a older shorty I was feeling (a lawyer). They threw this shyt on and a nikka started tearing. Shorty was like yo I love this song too but what's going on my guy??? Lmao I just remember those days fukked up in the hood lost and mad at the world my brothers were doing life but Mary in that song elicited positivity, the pain in the struggle strength. You felt it in her voice that she was a warrior. Damn good times thank God I'm a 90s baby!
I think we already have several times but im down for another lol. It’s funny I was listening to Mary a few days ago. The 90’s was a goat era for R&B: Mary, Toni Braxton, D Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Mariah, Whitney, Joe, Brian McKnight, baby face, jodeci, boys II men, SWV, tevin Campbell, brownstone, Kelly Price, Janet Jackson, Monica, Brandy, Faith Evans, xscape, en Vogue(early 90’s hold on and my lovin, lol) and so many others.
A thread should be made on that.
Yessir that is correct I recal revolt having an article about them and they listed this song number 2 or 3 of their top 13 hits It's crazy bro the energy was different man. Not trying to be like the oldheads and shyt but the energy, the vibe, etc of music of that era was different and I'd argue its the production that did that. It spoke to you in countless ways bro you felt that shyt deeply and you could resonate with them on numerous levels. Both RnB and Rap bro. I was born in 92 so I caught most of this shyt as a youngin due to my older brothers but man it was different back then man, I remember watching videos on Box bro and copping albums on Tuesday (and shyt even recording songs from Hot 97 on the cassette lmao). Anyways like you said man that shyt is still everything and it's so true. Type of song no matter WHERE you at, you gonna do a two step.Tone from Trackmasters produced this right..Crazy how many artists they laced back then
This shyt is still everything

I will help by @ some of the r&b heads. My music taste are generally stuck in the late 80s through early 2000s anyway lol.I must not have been around when yall did. I've been really listening to 90's music lately. Other day was listening to Mary, Toni, 90's Janet, and SWV. Maybe I'll make the thread.
