Seems like an odd criticism within the context of every Meg, Cardi, etc song having the exact same flow and structure. Showing out and displaying your range is....good. I'm baffled anyone would disagree. I'm not even a fan but every time I see criticisms of her it's this odd stuff like "she does too many things well" or "she puts too much thought into her videos" or "she's working her album too long" lol.

Word!

We're in a spot now where people are coming up with ways to criticize artists for the sh*t they SHOULD be doing. This chick been online grinding forever, trying to get noticed and making demos and mad homemade videos. She dropped a project that she said reflected her many moods and how she doesn't like to hold on to all of her ideas. She just makes whatever comes to her. That's artistry and creativity.

Now weirdos are trying to find ways to sh*t on artists who actually put thought and energy into being creative and not cookie-cutter. It's the success that bothers them. They don’t like seeing people like Doe get the love and accolades. Because if she vanished a couple of months ago and didn't get nominated for anything, nobody would be complaining. It's the rise that upsets them to the point where they have to come up with new ways to hate. Sh*t is wild.

Y’all are weird with this doechi shyt. Of course she sounds like 3-4 different female rappers . It’s only about 5-6 in the history of rap that people even genuinely mention, or listened to before this new era of female rappers popped off

Always good to see another Florida nikka make it, but yeah I agree with the OP on this one.

I can't rock with this jack of all trades, scatter brain ass music shorty be dropping. Nothing really stands out. I tried giving her music a chance but all I hear is just a bunch of different voices and cadences and personality changes over a bunch of random ass pop hybrid beats. Don't even get hip-hop/rap vibes from this shyt. Whole image and branding just feels so forced and just on some try too hard shyt.

Yeah she talented, but her music definitely ain't for me. :manny:

I rather listen to Glorilla or 3Dnatee.

i actually just heard this and it prompted me to make this thread.

I don't have an issue with her paying homage which it sounds like she is doing here (she obviously isn't trying to hide it by any means), but this is my problem with her. She can flip a style and all, but she doesn't really have her own "sound" that she really hones in on that i've noticed. I cannot separate her from her voice alone because she tends to "over"use it imo in quirky ways that are unrecognizable to me.
In short, yes she’s talented but it’s hard building a fan base sounding like everyone else.

I'm glad you feel me. Her lyrics and delivery don't really bang for me as well. Her energy, look, and even topic matter can be good sometimes, but I don't feel compelled to bump/dance or deeply listen to her lyrics..... so what else can I really do with it?

It's not her debut and she is not a new artist. She was a generic rnb singer with a large major label backed and pushed single a few years back called "what it is". The Label rebranded her and here we are.
Doechii always rhymed and “What it is” just came out in 2023 on TDE the same label she's on now. What album did they put out on her before that?

it's because her natural rap style is more performative than anything else. She's trying to overwhelm you with so much variety that none of it truly sticks with you. You just walk away from it knowing that she's talented, but not much else since there's no real focus.

Her music sounds life if you let the drama club use the recording studio in the chorus room after school for a few weeks. :manny:

maybe i'm the only one who feels this way, idk.
but i listened to her mixtape and she displayed lots of flavors. different styles, flows, voices, personalities, sides of her, braggadocious, conscious, self-confessions, etc.
She is definitely talented.

However, I don't hear a "signature sound" or a "signature persona" from her. She did way too many voices to the point where i couldn't even point her out in a track if i heard her, like when she was on Tylers album and i was wondering who it was and didn't know until i looked up his features after.

I'm not saying artists are at fault for trying a slew of different things, but I just cannot pin her or recognize "her".

Her versatility is what makes her dope and unique. Outside of Doja Cat what other female rapper out right now has that ability? Most of them have one or 2 styles and they rinse and repeat the same single and content over again.

Loved the mixtape. It's refreshing to see versatile artist make good on her promise. She runs the risk of becoming a media darling/go to pop feature but that's up to her and her team. Longevity is a tightrope walk between seizing the moment and overexposure. I expect her to branch out into movies and fashion more quickly than her female counterparts.
