I was really hoping nobody said this BS. There's been tons of artist that released albums on a Friday (Nas, Mos Def ect)

Not to say that Beyonce was the first artist to release an album on Friday. Just like she wasn't the first artist to drop a surprise album (Death Grips). But in some of those cases, artists would drop albums early to prevent bootlegging. Beyonce just did it for the sake of creating a moment. One of the biggest artists in the game randomly dropping a new album on an unusual day, which created buzz and hype that a regular release wouldn't have. I'm pretty sure the industry looked at that and it made the decision easier to have albums come out on Fridays.

Another reason was to combat piracy, but I guarantee it wouldn't have happened if Beyoncé didn't prove that it could be commercially viable.

Tuesday means you have most of the week to digest an album, while Friday is competing with every other entertainment dollar out there from movies to podcasts or whatever your weekend vice is. By Monday, the rat race begins again and projects are forgotten.

Always preferred Tuesday releases but Beyonce literally changed the game and forced the industry to go for Fridays and i’m used to it now.
