This isn't really true. The biggest markets for live music in English speaking music outside the US is UK, Australia and Canada.I guess you got a point. But there is alot of truth in that saying tho. Because generally speaking the Europe are a bit behind when it comes to pop culture that stems from the states obviously. I live between Europe & the states, and Europe isn't a big market where they have a Hollywood, a big music business and alot of world famous celebs like the states been having for decades. So people get excited quickly if they get to see someone they like and therefor they rush out quicker.
But with Mase it's just about the "branding"..you gotta look at it like this, if this was 1997-1999 EVERYBODY would've been at this show (goes to show how people love to flock to POPULARITY like i always say..), but since Mase (as a brand) been dismissed, dissed and even at the time his album was called "mainstream" and stuff like that it doesnt hold weight in the long run. I think Europe is the place to go for artist that has built a level of fanbases. Like if Wu-Tang, DMX etc go alotta ppl wouldve came. Why? Cuz Europe is after and they get on alot of their material afterwards but they also love what they feel they represent. Same thing goes for a 50 Cent, Game etc. Game been practically touring in only Europe since he came out.
So it really depends at times.
People in Europe have the internet, they buy records and listen to the same records people in the US listen too. The only difference is European audiences respect legends but even then unless it's a major act they won't be getting loads of cash.
The Wu could pick up paper but they also top-bill Rock The Bells and feature high on Coachella line-ups. Sure they can tour and eat in Europe - basically doubling revenue but they can do the same thing in the US.
Trust me - rappers over cooking the "tour overseas" schtick.Only a handful of dudes are doing it like that and they've probably moved major units in the past or have classic work.
