Both countries are self sufficient nation states. They have defense forces and militaries they maintain.

Reason we're leaving afganistan is that they could not maintain that. Not the same situation. Also, we are in those areas more to contain China at this point.

Never mind our economic fortunes are reliant on international partners, one of which is HOSTILE, to keep your children in cheap clothes, you driving nice cars and the such. Our economic fortunes are indirectly reliant on our ability to PROJECT POWER..if our international partners suspect that the blade of our swords wax dull then we will see expedited manuevers to pull away from the US to cover themselves in the event that we suffer a "Rome" like disorderly collapse.
