Hudson Hawk used to be one of my favorite movies when i was young.
That type of ironic action humor didn't become super popular until the early 2000's
I think it was just 9-10 years too early

Charlies Angels/Austin Powers etc all followed the smae blueprint and were blockbusters

I'm scared to watch it now.tho, it's more than a decade since I've watched it.

Both films have undergone a critical reevaluation tho

Hell, I tend to enjoy most comedies that get negative or middling reviews regardless. Black comedies from the 90s tend to get the shaft from cac critics a lot actually "Five Heartbeats" one of my all time favorite films.

Even "Friday" got like 1, 1.5 stars from them...
