A lot of sequels though aren't continuations from the first series. Different scenarios and different plots.

Compared to the first no. I love it for its quotables and certain scenes are classic but looking back it was a bad movie and follow up to the first one. The idea of Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon taking out the Predator was just crazy.

Mortal Kombat ended on a cliffhanger, didn't it? Cliffhangers in action movies have to have sequels, imo.
The Terminator's arm being left behind wouldn't have been able to lead to the genesis of Skynet. It was just a mechanical arm. Sure that arm would have been the result of advanced and futuristic engineering but it wouldn't possess any software and/or computing capabilities that would lead to the creation of an advanced and self aware AI.
On the other hand The Terminator from the first movie left behind it's CPU after being crushed which did lead to the genesis of Skynet in the second movie.

My bad didnt man couldn't read the sarcasm in your post but still he was but he wasn't. He played the exact character and might as well been Murtaugh fighting The Predator in Los Angles minus Riggs.
