No Whammies!!
I don't know if this one rises to the level of an "overused" plot device just yet...but I've seen this twice in the past 2 weeks so if it crops up again soon it might get there:

-A superhero has a "no kill" rule, sticks to it for multiple seasons, etc. They hold back when fighting the bad guys and beat them so badly that any real wold humans would die, but the bad guys always survive.

-But then after the audience sees this happen for years, one day the hero encounters a bad guy so evil that they kill and/or dismember a secondary loved one that we've seen from day 1.

- The hero catches up with the evil bad guy and they put up a surprisingly strong fight, and for some reason they are able to keep up with the hero much better than expected.

-Thinking of their dead/dismembered loved one, the hero fights in a fight of rage and (shock!) they actually "Kill" the bad guy! OMG they broke their no kill rule!

-But then...at some point the camera focuses on the mutilated "corpse" of the dead bad guy...and :ohhh: they take a breath!!!

The hero broke their "no kill" rule...and the bad guy didn't even stay dead!!!

Not a cliche but the way conversations happen in movies/tv is so far from real life, too perfect, no stammers, uhms, interruptions, pauses-I know onscreen it’d drag out scenes but still interesting how we accept it
A lot of shyt that had more realistic conversations didn't make it past the first season, network execs usually aren't willing to take a risk with anything. A lot of older cartoons for adults in the early 2000s had good dialogue even tho the subject matter was nuts.

Movies that have good conversations are usually in the arthouse lane where making a profit isn't the end all be all so they get to be more creative.

I hate when one character announces another characters name in conversation because the writers think the audience is too stupid to pick up on who the characters are.

"Hey, Spiderman!, YOu can't do that!"

"Aquaman, listen! I can do whatever the hell I want!"

or something like..

"Hey, Dre! Can you turn those drums up a bit in the headphones?"

"Ok, Cube I got you!"

Horror movies where they communicate with the dead and are told very specific rules in order to not give the spirits power

proceed to break the rules because they wanna keep talking to their deceased love one

- When the character effortlessly snatches a worker's ID badge off their belt without them noticing in order to gain access to parts of the building.
- Parking spaces always available right in front of where they need to be without having to pay for a ticket or nothing
- Grown ass 35 year old men and women as teens
- Probably already mentioned in here, but characters taking one bite out of a hugely prepared meal and one sip of orange juice then just leaving it there on the table and heading out the door while putting their coat on with a piece of toast hanging out their mouth.
