One option would be for pumas to be more aggressive in defending their kills. Although I did document a puma killing a bear that was feeding on its kill (Allen et al. 2015), this did not appear to be a commonly used tactic. Another frequently used tactic is for subordinate species to shift their habitat use to areas not used by the dominant species, in order to find a refuge from competition. We analyzed this, but found that no matter in which habitat pumas killed ungulates, bears located and usurped the puma kills (Elbroch et al. 2015).

So…why don’t mountain lions defend their kills from bears? On occasion, they do. In one case in California, a large female mountain lion was displaced by an average-sized female black bear from a deer kill. The lion abandoned the site for 24 hours, but then looped back to confront the bear. What we found when we visited the kill a week later were the remains of the deer and bear, side by side.

Pumas are just more practiced killers, bears rarely kill anything. A puma has to kill something atleast every week, bears can go a whole year without killing something, they can eat vegetables, fruits, poultry, ect. Its like pitting a trained killer vs a average big dude.

too easy:

Mountain Lions Versus Black Bears

Black bears need them to do the work then take it as there is no major threat. Now if a Black bear can do that .... Grizzly is King.

Can you read? I already posted that link on this same page. lol It says a cougar killed a black bear. They only take some of the pumas food, nothing impressive on that, wolves take bear and puma kills all the time.

What exactly is the bear king of? King of the fattys maybe. But not king of the fighters in america:

The Review of Reviews

Bull whips bear:

Turning, the bull made charge the second, which much resembled the first, but soon after the bull charged a third time upon the bear when he was in a corner, when Bruin for a short time made lively use of both teeth and claws, showing more fight than at any other time during the evening. The bear went off and got in another corner of the cage, when the bull approached him and stood looking at him, and pawing the ground (for nearly ten minutes before he made another dash jammed him against the side of the cage. The bear clawed a little, uttered a roar, and slunk away to another corner. The bear was evidently afraid of the bull from the moment he first caught sight of him. From this time forward it was necessary to stir the animal up to get them together, when there would be a rush by the bull and a roar or two by the bear, and the round was ended. Person! got on tha roof of the den and poored blood upoun the bull who stood pawing andgazing upon the bear. A red cloth was fastened to a pole and waved about the bear, but both animals stubbornly kept the peace. After this the bull was let alone, and the business of stirring up cchfined to the bear, who stood it too. It seemed impossible to get the bear upon his feet, and Charley Palqer, chief engineer of the show, cans forward and said that the bull had whipped the bear and the bear was just about dead, and could fight no more.

The grizzly had no sooner abandoned his attack on the bull than the latter was on his feet, bearing himself aserect and as fierce as ever. "Giving his head a shake, he lowered it for the fourth time, and again charged. As the bull hurled himself against the grizzly the latter braced himself for a last desperate struggle. He struck out wildly with his paws and the bul' fell back with the force of the grizzly's blows. The bear sank to the ground. writhing in agony. The indomitable courage of the bull here prevailed. Blinded and crippled as he was, he dashed wildly at his foe again. With a last frantic effort the bear sought to make his escape, scrambling and staggering through the dust. But it was useless. His great strength was gone. The bull plunged his horns again and again into the huge form of the dying brute as he lay stretched helpless in the dust. The bear's muscles quivH1 THE BULL'S TRIUMPH. ered and contracted. He drew his immense paws up once or twice in convulsive clutches, raised his huge head, gave one agonizing groan and fell back dead.

But the brave bull fought on until the bear had had enough; and tried to run; the bull •was after'him like a flash, 'bowled him over and gored him to death. Even this did not satisfy his rage: he stood back a little to get bis breath, and then charged the body again and again, fairly lifting it off the ground with his horns. Finally, having glutted his wrath, he left the dead bedy of the bear and went off to find the herd, and. at let us hope, recover from his dreadful wounds.

The bull rolled him over and over until he groaned with pain. Bruin bounded to his feet and into the corner at the first opportunity. The Twelfth Bound. Pumas are renowned for killing things twice to 10x bigger than themselves, bears are known for not equaling something in power of his own size and being killed by many things smaller than himself. What would the people vote for, a king who conquered things much greater then his own prowess, or vote in a monarch that gets killed by things 10x smaller than himself, and can almost never even defeat something of his own size and stature?

Hmm, tough one.

You obviously dont know the properties of being king, Kings are monarchs that rule, not get dominated.

And I didn't?

I love big cats btw

You posted 2 young leopards being killed, a tiger which is not lightning fast like a puma, a grizzly bear pushing over a young puma and a cougar respecting a badgers domain. Then you posted black bears playing with pumas for disney like films which didnt even put a scratch on a puma, nor any broken bones on the mountain lion, or any type of win over the american panther.

Wow, that really proved that a grizzly can kill a prime of life mountain lion.

You still didn't even present 5 times a grizzly has killed a puma to even suggest a big bear can bypass a cougars superior quickness, agility and speed. As they can kill things larger than the bear, a panther is so quick he can run all up and down a bear and leave him a bloody mess way before even getting in a counter punch or bite in.

they kill adult male elk, an animal seven times the size of a female puma.38 While deer, more manageable in size, are the cougar's prey of choice, some do not submit without a struggle.
puma "killed a" - Google Search

Can you show us a bear killing something 7x his own size? Thats the equivalent of a 1,000 pound bear killing a 7,000 lb elephant or rhino, yet bears cant even defeat 1,000 lb bulls more than vice versa.
