So she bought a car so she doesn't have to walk the streets at night( yes it's daylight saving so it gets dark at 5pm in Chicago) and to have access to jobs and other opportunities and people are bashing her?
I could understand if she went and boughtclothes or new boobs but she's trying to make a sound investment and people are bashing?
I haven't read beyond the first page but was shocked by the idiots of the coli overreaction. I am willing to bet many didn't even read the quoted statement by the mother. It seems like she only used a bit of the money and not all. I don't think anything is wrong with it considering her current predicament. These cold hearted Devils were willing to kill a 9yr old best believe they won't blink twice about capping his mum.

I didn't really see it as dumb. I have 0 stake in this woman's life either but having sudden money and being able to sustain a different lifestyle than you once had is hard. It ain't exactly uncommon to hear about it going the wrong way. That's why there are so many lotto stories with bad endings.
Now the life insurance policy thing is dumb as hell. I've lived in quite a few neighborhoods a lot of people don't want to step into. There are people who live there who could barely afford health insurance or not have any at all. A life insurance policy, even in a high-risk neighborhood, would be kind of dumb and an extra thing to pay. Lots of parents fear their kids dying, sure, but I'm sure a lot of people would consider going that extra step a bit weird.
