Dude skipped completely over the process of being able to demonstrate proof of income, he assumes that having x amount in the bank is a golden ticket, it doesn't work like that in Chicago nor anywhere else UNLESS you're moving to some low income apartments that only care about your security deposit and first month's rent.

You're dumb. A lease is only 1 year, and like plenty of people mentioned here there are numerous apartments for rent where $17,000 will more than cover a years worth of rent.
