mental illness and religion never seem to mix well
mostly because they can be and can become indistinguishable

But the thing is she is crazy AF.. If it wasn't religion to would of been something else like I think my kids are being controlled by aliens" or something. This is a story about mental health breh. Religion isn't the problem in this story

Basically...more people kill their kids without religion ever being involved.

so a known mentally ill person does something crazy and it's religion's fault? :upsetfavre:

Had she killed them because she thought they were aliens would we be blaming aliens or the X-Files?

This is as ignorant as when people say "he needs Jesus" after hearing about some gang banger doing some dirt.

Hoist responsibility on to the people not the excuses they provide.

yeah, more like there are hundreds of millions who are religious here in this nation and they aren't killing their kids... but let's take one story and paint a very broad spectrum of people with it. I can easily take a video of the little girl in China getting ran over by a van and no one helping her and say, "LOL look guys, this is atheism!!" But it would be rather childish for me to use tragedy to 'score points' against a competing ideology.

Yeah, because everyone in China is an atheist.

If you had a book about atheism that led people to believe that casting out evil spirits from a person was a real thing then maybe you'd be onto something. But no one says things like because atheism doesn't have such wacky fukking ideas.

But if you have an ideal where such things are possible in a person's belief then it probably deserves some of the blame. A bit like the cults that commit mass suicides. Their beliefs in spaceships coming to save them had nothing to do with killing themselves? They were all crazy people?

They may not have been crazy but manipulated. Now you're really reaching.

Fact of the matter is people have been using various ideas to screw over other people since the dawn of time. Religion is just very easily corrupted because you're dealing with "truth" and "belief" things people are more than willing to kill and die for.

If someone is stupid enough and gullible enough to fall into a cult do we not hold that person responsible for their actions? I'm not saying religion wasn't used/corrupted to do a shyt ton of things, that goes without saying, what people are pointing out and the atheist HL crew seams to always side step is that people do bad things all the time for various reasons. Getting all hyped every time a crazy person does something bad in the name of religion is childish.

We're ridiculing religion because it perpetuates a ghost story as being a possibility. Now any batshyt crazy person can claim demon possession is well within the realm of their beliefs. Well we get hyped because we're calling this shyt stupid. So where do you draw the line between crazy and religious?

Well one is a belief and one is a state of mind. On can be the root of someone's actions, one is often used as justification for someone's actions.

When someone uses religion as their motive 3 things generally are going.
1. The person is crazy (a la this story) and they've somehow worked a belief system into their crazy. Sorta like that guy who said his dog told him to kill people...
2. The person has alternate motives but religion is advantageous because it plays on established beliefs, fears, love, truth and authority.
3. The person genuinely believes in what they believe and their motives are personal, though founded in their belief in a set of doctrine.

In # 1 religion isn't to blame as the person is FUKIN CRAZY.
In # 2 religion isn't to blame as the person is EVIL
In #1, 2 & 3 religion isn't to blame because people are responsible for their actions, not belief systems. When someone commits a crime we hold THEM accountable. There may be contributing factors but to try and pin blame on something as wide and varied as religion is akin to using "those people" or "all of them" when trying to pin shyt on a group of people. It's intellectually dishonest, myopic and lazy.

just stop caping breh. exorcism is a rleigios ceremony. this incident can be chalked up to religion. your 'god' is too much of a punk to take care of this satan

god letting satan run around fukcing with his 'children' is akin to taking your child to a day care run by a sex offender

Your child cant overcome a sex offender.

Yet we as a people can overcome satan. Big difference dont you think?
