I've been all over from Long Beach to Downey to rampart and 3rd to ktown to south central.

Any racial tension is really just gang lines and you don't have any real problems as long as you don't bang. Your boys shook for no reason.

ok breh, it’s not my city. If other LA brehs come in here co-signing you, I’ll let y’all have it.

I’m just going by what brehs have told me in real life, which is reinforced by news stories of real events as well as depictions in modern entertainment. It’s also bolstered by commentary on here when it comes to black/brown relations. :hubie:

Hate crimes in L.A. County, still on the rise, reach highest point in nearly a decade

"Despite a slight dip in the overall number of hate crimes reported statewide, the number of such targeted crimes in Los Angeles County increased last year, reaching its highest point in nearly a decade, according to an annual report by the L.A. County Commission on Human Relations.

Black and LGBTQ individuals were those most frequently targeted, the report shows. Of 521 recorded hate crimes in the county, more than half were racially motivated. Crimes targeting members of the LGBTQ community made up 24% of all hate crimes.

In 2017, a total number of 508 hate crimes were recorded in the county. There were 482 such incidents in 2016.

“The troubling rise of these acts of hate must be met with unwavering condemnation,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis said in a statement. “We must come together in solidarity to combat racism and bigotry head-on.”

...

African Americans, who make up just 9% of the county’s population, were targeted in 52% of all hate crime in the county.

According to the report, 53% of hate crimes against blacks were committed by Latinos
, while the same percentage of hate crimes against Latinos were committed by African Americans.

Among the assailants the data identify are Latino street gangs with ties to the Mexican Mafia, a violent prison gang that has been feuding with black inmates for decades. The Latino gang members are encouraged to run African Americans out of their neighborhoods... ."

SMF and LAX to VA and NC
I haven't been to all these cities this is my understanding.

  1. Boston
  2. Milwaukee
  3. Detroit
  4. Philadelphia
  5. Baltimore
  6. Chicago
  7. Miami
  8. D.C.
  9. NYC
  10. Atlanta

So let's start with this, since LA has been a major topic of conversation here...

LA is the only city I've lived in or been to where the gang violence is largely racial. That's what distinguishes LA from most places...

I dont actually have an issue with LA on a Top 10 list. Crash came out 15 years ago and is one of the best movies ever created and highlighted perfectly the below-the-surface tensions every racial group has in LA. It's a real thing in LA, bit also contextualizing that LA is a city of 4 million people, 500 hate crimes in a 365-day year is not alot and surely has to be one of the lower numbers for major cities...

But its Los Angeles, it's a target of bashing for many different groups, so people will pile on. It ain't the worst place I've been regarding racial tension, not by a long shot. Its hella exaggerated and the average Angeleno or visitor won't notice it---->bit as I said, wouldn't have an issue with it Top 10. It's there...

Anybody who thinks there isn't tension in The Bay hasn't been to San Francisco, and hasn't been to the peripheral counties like Marin and Santa Clara. The Bay gets alot of unearned appreciation as this racial nirvana lol. The East Bay is less tension than the rest of The Bay, I'll give it that, but that's only about a third of The Bay. The rest of The Bay is fukked up if you're black, and while East Bay is pretty good, it ain't nirvana...

Memphis is very racially problematic, segregated, there's some real issues there...

I dont know how Buffalo didn't make the list, Buffalo and Cincinnati (haven't been there) are WIDELY acknowledged as some of the most racially tense places in America, maybe the top two....

There's a fair amount of tension in Virginia Beach...

Pittsburgh got it pretty bad...

New York City def belongs, I see some people trying to get you to say it doesn't lol...the entire NY State and Pennsylvania have big issues...

I didn't feel much tension in Boston but its reputation has to come from somewhere, right?

I see Milwaukee popping up on here, but most of the board hasn't spent any substantial time here.

A lot depends on how you define racial tension. If you're thinking of it as you walk around town and some CAC shouts a slur at you, you generally won't find that here. People are way too passive aggressive for that. You can move freely in the city proper; some places will be more comfortable and your speed than others, but again, it's super rare to experience anything or anyone being outwardly hostile toward you.

Now, if racial tension is being measured by segregation, that's different. There's a long, nasty history with that and it hasn't been dealt with properly. As a result, you see the poverty and inequality that plagues the city. And then, when shyt blows up, the nation sees it and has the perception of the city that it does.

When I think of Miami I don’t think of racism or at least to be a top 10 racist city. I also don’t see how D.C. and Atlanta can crack top 10.

Put Buffalo, New York up there and definitely Los Angeles, California, history tells you it definitely belongs and should be one of the highest cities as a matter of fact.
