1. Very good movie. Sam was great in it.

2. This movie is super tragic with a very rewarding ending.

3. One of my favorite spike Lee films. Errol fukking Barnes still scares me to this day! Delroy Lindo steals the show in this one.

It is a hood movie
It’s a Brazilian barrio

It's a hood movie. All because it's not set in the United States doesn't mean it's not a hood movie

Aside from it literally taking place in Brazilian hoods I never thought of it as that. There may be a few parallels to American life but it's not like a 1:1 deal. That level of lawlessness and poverty was just on a different level. And I can't put my finger on it but it felt like City of God felt was making broader statements about their society? Idk, "hood" movie along with its usual motifs just doesn't come to mind like it would with all the other examples in here. It is one of my favorite movies of all time though.

If I could dap you twice I would. The part where he snitched in court was hilarious. Why would the educated brother from the bank even be in attendance. Wasn’t he supposed to be laying low.

Belly is overrated as well. I like it as a guilty pleasure but it was definitely overhyped. The best part was the end speech with the Minister Farrakhan character Ben Chavis was portraying.
