Belly is the most OVERRATED, I remember that shyt looking like stone cold trash when they showed the trailer on TV. I remember seeing the ads in the Source and thinking it was trash. I remember a chick told me she saw it and Method man is only in like one scene, and I knew it was trash and had no desire to see it. Didn't watch it until it was on DVD and some of the homies had a copy in my door room..

Then I finally saw it for the first time and to my suprise, it was trash, worse than I thought cuz I figured it wasn't going to be good but I had no idea how wack the plot is.
As a kid all my older cousins talked about belly. I thought it was gonna be on some legit Scarface/good fellas type shyt. Watched it as an adult and wow it was a let down. Nas is awful but DMX is slightly entertaining.

literally said New Jersey Drive before i clicked. It is every bit as good as Menace and Boyz to me, for real. I think the portrayals of the carefree recklessness was actually better in that movie than its peers, and they had the best 'evil cop' in the genre ever.

this fukkIN GUY

the bond between the brothers REALLY seemed like friendships of mine and how they fade, especially when someone is just too fukkin wild to be around.

Overrated: If it counts as a 'hood movie' [its a movie that the hood LOVES, not a hood movie IMO], King of New York is borderline bad. Lawrence Fishborne is nearly terrible in it. Nothing is natural in the entire film.

if King of New York doesn't count, even as someone from Michigan: 8 mile fukkING SUCKS.
fukking facts. New Jersey drive reminds me so much of my childhood. That scene where that female cop pulled up on midget still gets me heated. I loved when he shot that at the cops from the roof.
:wow:

As a Calabasas kid I can’t relate since my father did his best to keep me away from that life…but I like totally feel South Central is underrated. The biopic of the OG Bobby Johnson. ESQ.
edit: I see a breh beat me to it. Barely recalled hearing about this movie as a kid when everyone was talking bout the hood flix :mjpls:

South central is the perfect example of how powerful a black father can be.

Great minds and all that :youngsabo:. Glad other brehs appreciate it as much as me. Such an incredible movie and yea, one of the most powerful depictions of fatherhood. We need reps back!

The wood is definitely underrated. Idk how it isn’t talked about more.
what's crazy is the wood is probably the most relatable out of them all...that coming of age story fits with anyone in any hood..then you and your partners grow up and and reminisce.... :wow: think i might throw that on tonight
