So, none of you guys with African fathers ever saw him wearing a wrapper around the house??? Y'all are so homophobic, jesus christ.

nope. ghanaian women wear those though; they also use them wraps as makeshift cradles to carry their babies around on their backs. Yasin Bey's name would quickly be changed to Kwadwo Basia if he was caught in Accra like that.

I never seen any of my relatives in a wrap, even in the country side. Only Somalis but that's their thing anyway.

Not saying ALL Africans wear it (never saw any of my relatives in it), but as you just said yourself by bringing Somalis, some do.

BULLshyt.

As a half Nigerian and half Sierra Leonean who dresses traditionally I have seen plenty of elders going to church or parties with wraps around their whole body

I won't be surprised if "African" Americans don't see this
I'm Congolese and I don't recall ever seeing a man in a wrap. That's something women wear where I'm from :yeshrug:. Ppl forget Africa is not a monolith sometimes.

I always considered it religious cuz a lot of muslim folk do rock those. However Mos Def whole reason and timing is suspect considering the influx of "skirts" into hip hop recently. why now? none of that cuz I'm in Africa shyt cuz it ain't even what they do where he is so?

I dunno breh, I ain't trying to much into it but the whole "that shyt is not African" is bs too, just wanted to correct that somewhat. That's seeing Africa through Western eyes.
