He should be a staple in top ten emcee lists, but he never reached his potential. He dropped a bunch of dope shyt early on then got distracted by Hollywood and personal issues. He had it all lyrics, flow, charisma, could make good songs, etc.

Hm I liked his musical exploration and was obsessed with him back in the day before I learned about his personal life.

I met him briefly, he was nice and accepted my thanks for being a great artist fun day.

He became very hit and miss, but he was good at Black August (I assume that doesn’t exist anymore)

Damn near all of BOBS

Lifetime, The Panties, Beautiful Boogie Man, Pistola, Travellin Man are my songs

even if yasiin would've been only focused on music and not acting, how much more popular would he really be?
content wise, outside of miss fat booty, brown sugar and oh no, he was never making songs that the masses are interested in
and with the way hip hop changed so much from the time he dropped his first album in 99' to the early 2000's, it would be the same

it's 2021 and people still only talk about yasiin's black on both sides album like he doesn't have any other good to great albums

the new danger is a dope album.
true magic has some gems on it
the ecstatic is a classic, i like the ecstatic more than black on both sides and black on both sides is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time
i can vividly remember hearing black on both sides for the first time in 99' the day it was released.

and he has a lot of songs and guest features that are like 2 to 3 albums worth of material

People forget he was an actor BEFORE he was a rapper. Dude was like 16 starring with Bill Cosby on tv and shyt. He was always going to be in that “Hollywood” life as he was just talented as fukk.

exactly
i remember he was on episode of spin city back in the day, this was back in 98'
same year the blackstar album was released

A Mississippi Cotton Field
5 solo albums,

3 classic albums (Reflection Eternal Black Star, BOBS, The Ecstatic)

6 Grammy nods (him losing to Weezy that year will forever make me mad)

Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for "Something The Lord Made"

Regarded as one of the greatest MCs ever, if you just rattling off names and not fazed by a "Top 10" list, shyt like sales or how many "Classics" a fan will say he has regardless of how many albums he releases a year

Seem alright to me :yeshrug:
