I fukks with the Mighty Mos but he needs to BE the change he says he wants to see and actually drop some of them 5-6 albums he’s been hoarding the last decade.

No Fear Of Time was a step in the right direction. Lets go Yasiin!
Where the Mannie Fresh album, Yassiin!!!! :to:

Mos really just needs a solid producer down to tie himself to him like the nas/hitboy shyt.

always surprised me he took such a huge step back after the elastic when he definitely has a lane.

But he seems so antifame 99% of the time that you can tell he doesn't give a fukk. Shame Kanye tied him up when he was tryna be musically active.

He's entirely correct.

But I will say that there are a variety of artists that can adhere to your tastes, depending on what you're looking for. As I've gotten older, I still enjoy political messaging, but I also like more emotive and personal music - which can often be positive.

I think of billy woods and ELUCID (Armand Hammer), Earl Sweatshirt, Moor Mother, Akai Solo, Noname, MIKE, Ka, Nas's recent cuts, older MF DOOM, Ghais Guevara, Ab-Soul, Kendrick, Little Simz, (even Cole) and Rapsody have also resonated with me.

At the same time - I think the more seasoned of the drug rappers - like Boldy James and Roc Marciano - produce something starkly different than the standard mainstream drug rap.

I feel him, but he’s had the same message for a quarter century
It got even more pervasive after Black on Both Sides, and was ubiquitous by the time he dropped The Ecstatic.

Positivity is a necessity for hip-hop to survive, otherwise it is subsumed under its own created idea of "real" that turns the aerage rap figure into a drug-dealing, drug-using, super n******. basically a modern day Blacxploitation caricature.

:sas1: i was saying this 20 years ago in Drew Hall (HU you know!) and a lot of brehs looked at me like I had 3 heads.

Negativity in Hip Hop been on overdrive and it's no coincidence that White America dropped it and many long time black Hip Hop fans dropped it as well.

It’s the washed leading the washed in this thread if folks think that young rappers are still mentioning crack as a preeminent theme in 2025.

Mos feels like the teacher in this SNL skit, using 90s tropes to characterize the youth

The biggest mainstream rappers last year were Tyler the Creators and Kendrick Lamar, where is all this supposed crack music the kids are listening to?
