Just keep the story simple (and true to the source material), hire competent actors and spend most of the focus on the fight choreography. Making a good film based on a fighting game shouldn’t be too hard.

You would think they had enough source material to just do this...

The first MK movie was actually kinda good even though it didn’t age well. Had some great fight scenes

It basically just needed a reboot of that and probably change up some things and introduce some new characters/fighters since most kids these days probably never seen the OG movie.

I actually didn’t mind too much about the Cole turner shyt (despite another wise cracking white teenager being cringey) but you can’t make an MK movie without Scorpion, Sub Zero, or even Reptile. The ninjas are some of the most iconic and popular figures... they’ve even had their own MK games

If they literally rebooted the first movie and ramped up on fight choreography whilst removing all the cheesy aspects, that would be success. They would need to make it R-rated so they can have the necessary gore/violence to make it authentic.

You have to have all the iconic characters and their designs. If they try too hard to switch things up, it’s gonna be a Ghost In The Shell situation again and even the original fans won’t want to watch.

So this "Cole" guy... is he going to be a white male that they want as the central character of a franchise whose main characters are predominantly asian?

Because that's the only reason i see for introducing a new guy and having him be the "star" alongside a revamped Sonya and Kano as his supporting white leads, with no Johnny Cage mentioned.

Because otherwise, Liu Kang is the obvious choice as the heroic lead. Sub Zero as well if you want the anti-hero route. Jax if you want a gritty black man as a lead

Maybe Johnny wasn't gritty enough

Or maybe i'm jumping the gun and Cole will be a non-white male...
But if Cole is cast as white, i wonder whether white people will cry about pandering
