yea GSU stadium holds more folks..but I still believe Herndon Stadium would be better.

The only high schools close to GSU stadium is probably Carver & Grady, and Grady has their own stadium.

Herndon Stadium is just minutes away from Washington & Doug. They can use Herndon instead of Lakewood or Grady Stadium.

Herndon was still open when I was in high school, and we played Washington on their homecoming & they had it at Herndon. That shyt was sold out and had standing room only
How many would go to a Washington/ mays game at Herndon?

probably close to a sell out. One thing about APS their alum support their schools heavy cause they’re so historic & are apart of the culture of whatever hood they’re from.

Mays has their homecomings at the dome some years & Washington is less than a mile from Morris Brown.

What will really fill up Herndon would be a Washington-Doug game aka the Westside Classic

Gtfoh bruh I don’t think I’ve ever seen you mention that before. What did you play?

Trumpet. Yeah i was at Morris Brown before i transferred to GT. When i got to GT i hung up the horn because i was not about to go out there playing the bullshyt they play at white schools.

I see you went to ASU, when i was in high school we had our band camps there. We would also march in the Magic City classic every year, fun times.

Morris Brown was my #1 choice but they lost accreditation by time I graduated in 06. Would have went there and played trombone instead of ASU.

I always say if Mo B never folded a lot of us would have stayed home instead of going to FAMU, Cookman, AAMU, Bama State, Jackson State & TnSU.

You still keep up with HBCU bands? We discuss them on here in a few threads

Mo B's biggest drawback in the scenario you're outlining is they have little to no parking. You can't have people coming from all over and you've got no infrastructure to handle the numbers.

You right I forgot all about the parking situation.

whenever we had performances there our buses were on the street & I don’t know where the hell everyone else parked cause I didn’t see many parking lots.

maybe they can park all over the AUC & have shuttles or something

Above the fray.
I used to live down the street from Morris Brown. I know its in a historic location but they gotta move it from being so close to the hood if they want to grow it.
I don’t think they’ve had more than 50 students a semester since they lost accreditation, and some of their buildings on campus need major renovations.

Hilton and Morris Brown partner on $30 million hotel, training program

Morris Brown College will partner with Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. (NYSE: HLT) to develop a $30 million hotel on the campus of the historically Black college.

On Thursday, the Morris Brown board of trustees approved the deal, which will involve a long-term land lease on the school’s quadrangle and an overhaul of Griffin Hightower Hall, a low-rise building next to the historic Fountain Hall.

The project comes as Morris Brown tries to rebound from accreditation issues and as U.S. companies and philanthropic groups inject more money into schools within the Atlanta University Center to increase racial equity.

Crews will build a 150-room hotel under the Tapestry Collection by Hilton. Miami-based CGI Merchant Group will finance the project through its recently launched $650 million Hospitality Opportunity Fund. The development will also include three restaurants and space to train students.

Raoul Thomas

“This is not just a commercial investment,” Raoul Thomas, founder and CEO of CGI Merchant Group told Atlanta Business Chronicle. “We will be working with Hilton to support curriculum development and to provide guest lecturers.”

The project will span 125,000 square feet near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in southwest Atlanta. A hotel will make up the largest portion of the project, 91,000 square feet.

It would provide needed hospitality space just walking distance from campus. The nearest hotel is about a half mile from Morris Brown College. The 195-room Reverb by Hard Rock opened late last year next to Mercedes Benz Stadium in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood.

Several universities in Atlanta including Georgia Tech and Emory University have large on-campus hotels.

In addition to the hotel, plans also include 34,000 square feet of classrooms and an auditorium.

“My goal is to become one of the top institutions in the country for Black and Brown people to learn how to own, operate, and manage hotels,” said Kevin James, who became president of Morris Brown in 2019.

Founded in 1881, Morris Brown College is a private, liberal arts historically Black institution. It is considered the first college in Georgia to be operated by and for African-Americans.

Nearly 20 years ago, Morris Brown lost its accreditation after its former president and a financial aid director were indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of fraud. While enrollment declined to fewer than 100 students, Morris Brown remained open.

In recent months the school has been making its way back.

Last month, members of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, an accrediting agency, toured the campus.

In April, the group is set to vote on whether to make Morris Brown a candidate for accreditation. That would clear the way for the school to receive full accreditation within five years.

It will take money to get Morris Brown College back on its feet—to accommodate students, renovate its facilities and hire faculty and staff. But amid calls for racial justice and greater equity, corporate purses are wide open, as seen by recent donations to other colleges in the Atlanta University Center.

“This is not a one and done contribution,” Thomas said. “The school will share directly in the [hotel’s] profits,” he said, declining to give further details.

In addition to the profit-sharing agreement, CGI Merchant Group will establish a six-figure endowment for student financial aid.

The hotel is in the design phase. CGI Merchant Group tapped Atlanta-based C.D. Moody Construction and Chasm Architecture for the project.

The hotel at Morris Brown is expected to open in the summer of 2023.

Investors are optimistic the completion date will give the hospitality industry time to rebound from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and also provide ample time for Morris Brown to bounce back.

“This announcement should definitely open the eyes of those who want to work in hospitality,” James said.

Prospective students will be excited to be a part of the "resurrection class" at Morris Brown, he said, offering an opportunity to attend a school with its own hotel in one of the country's top cities for hospitality.

This so dope!

What's up with the Towers though? Are they gonna tear it down and put it there?

On parking- they could make a parking deck around the street from the Towers.
