I think the difficulty is trying to make something that's not just another generic FPS

edit: trying to modernize these old IP's you get stuck between trying to please people's nostalgia, while also making a game that's gonna please modern gamers

They already had the bones with the gadgetry and cool alt-fire mechanisms. Leaned into the sci-fi part mainly through the weapons.

Everyone's already made a shooty game with emphasis on realistic weaponry. PD would stand out if they stuck to what's there and did the weapons right.
