I'm going to assume that you great grand was a man of means to be able to have multiple wives. I've known many Nigerians, and at the time just knew them as being from that country and not what ethnic group. In discussions over the years, going by their first names I've been told that many were in fact from your group. I I never heard any of them mention polygamy. Gonna assume that they didn't experience it in their families maybe because they didn't come from wealth.

I wouldn't want more than one wife though to be honest. Multiple wives sounds good on paper, but it's a headache.
Sometimes it's the first wife who will urge her husband to find another wife. For various reasons: maybe his sex drive is too strong for her. Maybe he wants many children and she just wants a couple. Maybe she's barren and her husband badly wants children. Maybe she needs some space from her husband and wants to offload him on some other, more energetic woman (it happens believe it or not).
It's not as big of a taboo as some people make it. But we live in an era were fakkits getting married is more acceptable than a man and multiple grown ass women agreeing to this type of arrangement
Feminists will hit you with the "but it's oppressive to women", how? Unless you believe that women are incapable of making decisions for themselves. If there's coercion involved, then obviously that's wrong. But you can't just assume that these women are being coerced into these marriages.
Now, if Breh instead of having two wives and thus legally assuming responsibility for their financial and physical well-being, had multiple side-bytches for whom he wasn't responsible at all, these feminists would be more cool with it.

I mean I think it's cool if you can find two women who are ok with it and are still loyal...would probably be preferable if the two women also were involved sexually...you get 3 incomes in one household...would definitely be weird to explain to children though and I'd imagine lots of therapy would be needed for children in that environment

These days most Igbos do not do the polygamy thing anymore cuz it is seen as primitive and also most of them are Christians. Even wealthy ones usually have only one wife.
