Damn so there's the 19 track retail, the 4.5 mic album The Source reviewed, and then another bootleg version too?

I think I have the 4.5 mic version somewhere, because it's got the promo voice over it, and I thought it started off with Quiet Storm.
I have the version with promo voice (so called "reviwer version") and it has 17 tracks:

01. Mobb Deep - Quiet Storm 2:07
02. Mobb Deep - Allustrious 4:31
03. Mobb Deep - Mobb Comin' Thru (feat Big Noy 4:17
04. Mobb Deep - Guns, Money, p*ssy 4:46
05. Mobb Deep - The Realest (feat Kool G Rap) 2:32
06. Mobb Deep - fukk That bytch 3:04
07. Mobb Deep - Feel My Gat Blow 2:46
08. Mobb Deep - Where Ya Heart At 4:31
09. Mobb Deep - How You Want It (feat Cormega) 3:56
10. Mobb Deep - Murda Muzik 3:10
11. Mobb Deep - The Streets Raised Me (feat Bi 2:18
12. Mobb Deep - Pile Raps 2:27
13. Mobb Deep - Nobody Likes Me 4:23
14. Mobb Deep - Hoe Gonna Be A Hoe 3:58
15. Mobb Deep - Alright Then 4:05
16. Mobb Deep - Where You From (feat Eightball 4:06
17. Mobb Deep - Thug Music 5:40

Just found this while going through some old source magazines. It's an article on murda muzik tracklists, bootlegging, etc

Nice read.

murda muzik is one of those cds that people herald as classics and Im just like :mjlol:. So many skippable bamd tracks
So it's definitely not a genuine Source 5 mic album classic, but over the years I think the version that leaked early is 4.5 mics. The version that was sent out to magazines to review leaked on Napster. They cut off some of the dopest joints and replaced them. Same thing happened to I Am by Nas and that album got weakened too by rushing some songs to replace some of the ones one the leaked version.

But yeah the OG Murda Muzik is a solid 4-4.5 mics IMO. Whether or not it's a classic or not I guess depends on how you view the word. The OG version is a personal classic to me but it's not quite in the hip-hop hall of fame in the way The Infamous and Hell on Earth are.

I was thinking lately, first in regards to Bulletproof Wallets but today also about Murda Muzik: Both had original versions most people prefer over the retail. How hard can it be to get those out in full CDQ official releases today? Sampling issues shouldn't be the same problem as they were then (and with Murda Muzik that wasn't even the issue).
Bulletproof Wallets has it's 20th anniversary this year, good occasion to do it. Murda Muzik has a couple years to the next anniversary, but it shouldn't matter really. Maybe a Kickstarter or whatever could do it. It just frustrates me that some albums never came out the way they were intended. Then as time goes on they become internet myths with people compiling their own OG versions. Why not just release the real thing.

Good question.

Anything with Mobb’s catalogue is going to be tricky, I think, largely due to the legal issues surrounding how much money P’s estate owes to a few people in the music business. All the P and Mobb music is on hold.

But maybe since this music is so old, it’d be tied up with other entities and less of an issue? I’m not sure.
