Lol and how about the top DTs or DL? How many of them came out after barely starting their last year of college, drafted in the 2nd round, and ended up being quality starters?dawg the top safties last year werent even high draft picks. matter of fact they were damn near non existent stat wise before last year
You can play this game all day. It doesn't mean addressing a position of need is a bad idea. We went for Charles Tapper and Maliek Collins and Tyrone Crawford and now Trysten Hill. Cool.
Most we ever did on the backend was sign George Iloka...
I'm not even trying to shyt on Hill but some of the arguments you guys use are "you don't even know if Thornhill is good!!" like you know for a fact that Trysten Hill is?
I trust the FO at certain spots. If they draft offensive skill position players in the first (only Zeke and Dez come to mind), blue chip Oline prospects (Martin, Frederick, Tyron), or highly ranked LBs (Spencer, Lee, Carter, Smith, LVE), cool. They do very well with their first round picks.
But when they start going for TEs? Or DL? Or CBs? Literally the only guys that have worked out in all 3 of those position groups are Byron Jones and DLaw. It's littered with Gavin Escobars and Jourdan Lewis and Morris Claibornes and Randy Gregorys and Maliek Collins and Tyrone Crawfords.
Funny enough you guys accuse me and others of wanting S just to draft S but this franchise has shown that in almost 2 decades, they generally draft TE, CB, and DL just to draft them.
We'll see how Trysten Hill plays. Knowing Marinelli and how many starters/rotational players we already have on DL, I'll be surprised if he even plays 40-50% of defensive snaps next year.
