yo, what y'all expecting out of saftety that makes it so important? We finished last year tied for 6th in the league at allowing the fewest passes over 20 yds. Thats with Heath and Woods as your starters. We fifth in the league in points per game at allowing only 20.2 points per game. Thats in the same class as Chicago, Ravens, Jacksonville and Titans. and smidge above NE who is about 20.3

Thats with Heath and Woods.
Bend but dont break defense breh, cmon. Marinelli’s defense is designed to not give up the big play. I do know some stats that show why Safety is important:

-We were 22nd in the league in NFL passer rating against.

That was with Byron playing insane and not giving up any TDs. Passer rating differential is the most important Stat in football. Pass better than your opposition and you will almost always win. The passer rating we gave up is about the same as Dak’s, hence why we had so many close games. We have to get better at stopping the pass...

and please dont ever say what MEL thinks is right. He never right about drafts PERIOD. He has never had a scout job.
Oh so disregard what Mel says because it makes our team look bad? If he gave him a higher ranking, you wouldnt be saying this

No just no:snoop:

Go look at our red zone numbers in 2014 and 2016. They were good and still had an early playoff exit.

Like I said, pass better than your opponent and you win 85% of the time. We were one of the worst defenses against the pass and have been for 10 years from now. Will a dominant DT help? Yes. Is Hill a dominant DT? We dont know. Would Juan Thornhill be an upgrade over Jeff Freakin Heath Day 1? Hell yes...

I dont know what Thornhill is. He had some INT's last year. two against NKosi Perry from Miami who is just awful... 1 in a game against Liberty. blah...

agree to disagree. I dont care about Safety

My order of importance is

CB
DL
LB-especially who can cover RB's out the backfield
and finally
Safety

Buggsy Mogues

My spot is solidified if you ask me

The problem and why people want a safety is the lack of turnovers. We hardly EVER get those momentum changing INTs. We haven't had any playmakers in the secondary for a few years now. Last few years we were bottom of the league in INTs, last year we were middle of the road in total turnovers but that was mostly cause of forced fumbles, and that's a crap shoot stat, you can't rely on fumbles, those are usually 50/50 plays depending on where the ball bounces.

Our DB's been allergic to the ball for a minute.. I don't know if it's the coaching or just the dudes we drafting.

The front 7 is what causes the QB pressures which in turn causes qb to rush or throw bad passes. Our db's have had to cover way too long because our d line doesn't consistently make qb's uncomfortable.

Also, Richard is slowly taking ownership of the team but he acquiesced a lot to marinelli by going conservative on 3rd and long which didn't help the secondary.

I just want us to get a healthy, consistent and suspension free dline for once. We could have Earl Thomas back there and it won't matter if the QB has all day to throw.

While I agree that pressure is important, we need players on the backend that can cash in on those errant throws. Who do we have back there besides Woods thats a ballhawk? We know Byron and Chido are allergic to turnovers, AB is a penalty machine, and Heath is Heath.

I honestly didnt look at last years defense and say “Damn we need more pass rush”. What ultimately got us killed was having no run stuffer one-tech that we’ve needed for years. We always use Jags there.

McClain

As far as Safety goes, yes DT is a more important position on the football field. I will never deny that. But for this season, when we are in win-now mode who would u rather see out on the field

Maliek Collins :hula: Jeff Heath.

Win-now mode before we have to pay the dikkhead QB $30m (:gag:). Hill wont even start, while Thornhill will come right in and be the best Safety on this roster.

We all wanted ET this last year and some change and now, “safety isnt important???

Im not even going to get into the fact that Jones>>>Hill, which is my other reasoning for hating this pick.
