ESPN only broadcasted Sunday night baseball. What kind of ratings are they supposed to have?

Again, MLB doesn't promote individuals. They promote teams.

Ohtani can't even speak English but you want him on late night TV...
Of course man. He's gotta learn.

Use it as counter programming, get creative. There's no reason why MLB can't triple the ratings to 800k - 1 million per game. Of course ratings are up, Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, mets, Phillies are good. But sustain it. Baseball didn't have these issues 25 years ago when it was clearly bigger than the NBA

The ratings were not there.

The MLB had better be on NETWORK television and FREE streaming this time.

Also get your stars out there! Why isn't Ohtani or Judge on Colbert/Fallon/Kimmel!

Why isn't Harper everywhere! He has a pulse.
that's on them, not the league. And Judge has been on Jimmy Fallon a couple of times before.

Someone like Elly would revel in the opportunity to do mainstream stuff but he's still tryna be comfortable speaking English. The difference between a Euro basketball star and a young MLB player is that in Europe you grow up learning some English. The academies try to teach these kids English but growing up it's not something that was part of their lives even if they have family in the States.

as for this news, this doesn't impact their network situation. MLB is still on FOX.

He ain't gonna learn English. He's been in the league for how long now and still speaks thru an interpreter.

The ratings weren't even an issue either. They averaged over 1.5 million viewers on the season which was an increase over the previous year.

Japanese people are just inherently insular. Ohtani by comparison is more visible just by going to Laker and Rams games with his wifey, but otherwise he's a closed off dude who just hangs out his with dog. When Matsui was here he loved it because he could be generally anonymous here whereas in Japan he's a legend. When's the last time u seen a loud Japanese dude? Unless u doing slippery steps competitions, they're super silent.

I was listening to a pod in December that featured Vlad Jr and he was talkin cash shyt. Basically sayin, "all due respect to my boy Soto but nobody in this league is fukkin with me" type shyt and that woulda made for crazy headlines here if he said it in English. Junior Caminero, one of the best young prospects in baseball, hit that HR in DR that won them the title, doesn't know a lick of English.

If Ohtani wanted to learn English he would have learned it by now. Acuña is now doing interviews in English without his translator.

Marchand brings up some good points.

I'm against ESPN on this because they don't promote the game well enough. That's a fan perspective.

But from business perspective, maybe this was a bit more delicate and MLB may regret this.
