Well to be fair, they've established since the first one that Luther is the best at what he does when it comes to using computers and just being a technical marvel. So if you buy that from the first one, then it makes sense that he'd still be just as good at his job now if not better.

Yeah I did. Just hadn't said anything about it yesterday. Wanted to get my thoughts together, plus I had some tv to catch up on when I got home.

Anyway, loved the movie. I like what McQuarrie brought to the series as far as the scenes he crafted, a visceral feeling to the stunts and the fights, and loved the Hitchcock homage. Every action scene worked as character development and the dialogue wasn't too try or too heightened; it fell in that nice sweet spot for a movie like this. Also liked how the movie questioned Ethan and his motivation and his psychology. McQuarrie certainly has a voice and it was loud and clear.

Loved how the bad guy, once again, was not trying to beat Ethan, but hit hm where it hurts by simply outsmarting him and being a threat to his ego and pride. I feel like the best villains are the ones that specifically highlight a weakness of the hero, specifically their achilles heel, and he found Ethan's and just preyed on it.

Also LOVED Rebecca Ferguson. She was so on point in her role and was possibly the most compelling character in the whole movie. She had her own motivation, she was complex, and she had a nice arc.

That was all fun stuff to me that really worked for me. Really dope flick, thoroughly enjoyed it in IMAX. Also surprised how funny it was too
I listened to an interview podcast with cruise and Mcquarrie and Chris said he had not seen the man who knew too much til after they shot the scene :usure:

That's possible. The real question is, did he watch it before editing it? Because that's where the suspense gets built.

If you think Ving Rhames is the key factor to the franchise's liveliness, that says it all about how dry the franchise as a whole is. Meanwhile I look at the whole picture and see there's more to it, such as the fact this is the first interesting villain the franchise has had since the second one. Remember the guy from Ghost Protocol? I sure as hell can't, and I only remember the one from the third because it was Philip Seymour Hoffman, but the character he played sucked. Sean Harris' portrayal of Solomon Lane alone lifts up the movie beyond those two rock dry entries.
The villains for these movies have always been a bit on the blah side.
I only recall that Dougray Scott was the villain in MI 2 just because he gave up the part of Wolverine for it but I have very little memory of what he actually did in the movie.
