The average, normal American view on trans shyt is "that's none of my business" or "if that's what they want to do, who cares." And this isn't because Americans are super liberal or progressive on gender issues. They simply don't care enough to dictate what people do, and more importantly...they've never met a trans person. Trans people might as well be rare Pokemon, which makes it hard to qualify on people's radar. But you know what does qualify on people's radar? Abortion. Telling women they should look a certain way or shouldn't have jobs. IVF. Birth control. All things that generally impact large amount of Americans and get talked about every day at work/school/etc. That's why the "weird" thing sticks - because these are all conversations normal Americans have heard in real life, or dealt with in person.

It is a low importance issue. The reason it’s a big deal is because the right is obsessed with it as a culture war issue. They have no ideas, no platform, nothing to move the country forward. They’re a cult pushed along by religious extremists in a country that SHOULD be secular. They don’t care about protecting children, Catholic Church been molesting kids with impunity longer then we been alive. Sports is an issue that needs nuance and honest dialogue, something the GOP is incapable of.
